Ok, so we spent all day in Dallas looking for a used QX. Does the rear entertainment system not send audio through the rear speakers? Is it headphones only? Or were the seven different QXs we looked at all FUBAR? And does the DVD system have a tendency to die? Because two of the ones we looked at had aftermarket systems.

We didn't end up buying one today, for multiple reasons. Waiting for a call back from one of the Infiniti dealers in Oklahoma City or Dallas.

I have an 04' QX56 with the stock rear entertainment system and it works fine. And yes, the DVDs that are played send audio to all speakes in the car if you want it to or you can turn the sound off and the rear passengers can use the supplied headphones to hear the DVDs. My guess is that of the QX56s you looked at, previous owners changed the entertainment system to have either separate headrest screens or a larger, center-mounted single screen? Mine has the standard center-mounted screen but it's pretty small compared to other vehicle rear entertainment systems. I think mine vibrates more than desired, too. I would love to replace what I have with headrest screens but can't justify spending $1K+ for it on a 9 year old truck.

Rear entertainment system aside, I've had my QX56 going on 5 years and I absolutely love it. It hasn't been 100% perfect and reliable at all times but it has served us very well and is fairly easy to work on. And I still think these trucks are one of the best looking SUVs on the road right now. One major downside to mine was the transmission went out last July at about 72K miles. A rebuilt one was $3200 (4WD w/ towing pkg.) and that was through my indy mechanic, not the dealer. A dealer would have likely been closer to $5K. Not sure what caused mine to fail ...never towed anything, trans fluid was full and trans fluid had been changed at 45K miles. All in all, I am still happy with our QX56.
