DVD remote control? And how to FF or RWD DVDs?

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but have had no luck with searches.

Just bought a 2006 M45 Sport, advanced Tech package, which means it has the DVD player (in center armrest, plays movie on nav screen).

But the seller did not have a DVD remote, and says that the car did not come with one. From reading the manual, have concluded that a DVD remote DEFINITELY came if the car had the REAR DVD screen. UNCLEAR if it came with a DVD remote if it "only" had the DVD playing on the nav screen.

So... was it original equipment on this car??

And if it did NOT, can I buy one and use it in my car (or will it not work because the IR sensor is located in what would have been the Rear Screen ceiling console)?

And if the DVD remote IS usable, should I just suck it up and buy one from the dealer's part's dept, or is there a dealer that offers good mail-order/web pricing? alternatively, can I program a universal remote to do the trick?

2nd, related, question - HOW the heck do I fast-forward or rewind the DVD? Not talking about SKIPPING forward or back, that's pretty obvious. No, I'm talking about the 2x/4x/8x/16x fast forward or reverse that every other DVD player on earth allows. The manual doesn't say anything on this, so can it be true that it only allows skipping chapters??? Hence my interest in the DVD remote, but if the remote doesn't do that either, the need for it drops dramatically.

thanks!

if i'm not mistaken (and someone can correct me if i'm wrong), the remote only comes equipped with the car if you have the "rear entertainment package" with the drop down DVD screen because it has a built in IR sensor. plus it should come with two stereo bluetooth headphones so rear passengers can watch the movie without disturbing the others. so in essence, the guy who sold you the car is correct because you car doesn't need a remote hence you only have one screen. and as far as FF or RR, have you tried holding down the "skip" buttons instead of just pressing them ?

Thanks, 5.0beater. I think you're right - looking at pics of the rear screen (from autotrader ads), it certainly looks like the IR receiver is in the rear screen center console.

But I still can't figure out how to get FF or RR! Grrr...

I must be a complete moron, because I tried holding down the buttons and I FAILED.

Right now, to get the DVD to do anything, I have to first hit the "DISC" button (to the right of the controller), which puts up a graphic overlay on top of the movie. Then I use the controller to move down the option list - Pause(play), Stop, Skip Forward, Skip Backward. Highlighting, say, Skip Forward, then holding down the ENTER button does nothing (except SKIP forward, NOT fast-forward).

If I hit the left arrow, it takes me to "settings/aux", and if I hit enter there, it gives me a different overlay, with the ability to go to the Menu, Top Menu, turn on Aux, set sound options, etc.

I must be missing something blindingly obvious. Help!! :loco:

thx,

No, you are not missing anything. That is all it can do. The center console DVD drive without the rear entertainment system is a half-cooked dvd player. It is meant to be used for listening DVD-audio discs, not for watching movies.

Grrr... I'm such a frakkin' idiot.

Thanks to Ohmster on another board for showing me the light. The answer is, for anyone having the same stupid problem, is to use the FWD/RWD buttons on the radio/audio controls below. Push once to skip chapters, push and hold to FF or RWD. Frakkin moron user error on my part! Just tried it, works fine, literally slapped myself on the head - twice - for not thinking of that.

True story: just picked the car up, and went on a road trip with the family. My wife wanted the NAV voice instructions to be louder, so I adjusted it in the settings menu (while the car was stopped). The next day, I was at a meeting while she was out with our girls. That night, we're driving to dinner, and she complains, something happened to the Nav instruction volume, it's soft again. We're in traffic, so there's no way to get to that settings menu. A light bulb goes off, however, and I try the volume knob while the computer is giving us an instruction - and the nav volume goes up.

My wife slaps herself in the head for not thinking of that. I, of course, chuckle heartily at how clever I (being the man) am, for thinking of trying the volume knob.

Now I need to go and apologize to her, because I am apparently every bit as clueless as she was. ;D

Yeah, I misinterpreted your answer, sorry. What I tried when I read your response was to:

1. Hit "disc"2. Using the controller, Highlight the "FWD" option on the graphic overlay.3. Hold down the "enter" button on the controller, to try to 'simulate' the holding-down of the FWD graphic.

Didn't know you were referring to the FWD button on the audio controls below. Ah, I am indeed thick!

Yes, I am still looking for the part number for dvd remote for my car. I've searched everywhere and I could not find one. Also, if there is a universal remote I can use, please send the link over. My kids are driving me nuts when they can't see what's playing on the dvd.

thanks in advance,
jeff

Merged with existing thread. BTW, I guess you didn't find this Infiniti M35 M45 Dual DVD Remote (2006-2012) Price: $178.00 Current Stock: Out of stock

eBay and Amazon list this: NISSAN INFINITI M4C477072C entertainment DVD Remote Nissan part 28267-5Z000 OEM

Remotes.com Has an 28267-5Z000 OEM remote for $146.92 or generic remote for $29.90

Unless I'm mistaken your DVD player is made by Matsushita (a.k.a. Panasonic). You could try a Universal remote using Panasonic codes.

Our navigation touch screen, and multiple controls for the same command make it confusing sometimes! You use one button and don't think another Button would do the same, but in our case that's exactly what we get! We have multiple "enter" keys and DVD or audio controls is spar to make it convenient but instead confuses is... glad you figured it out! :bigthumb:
