Still perusing the owners manual...I was wondering about possible implications of having the car on (and possibly the a/c) while watching dvds. Are there any implications other than small amounts of wasted gas?

Probably not much more than that ...

However, if you take the next step that people seem to want to do: allow it to play while in motion, then I think it is a serious safety issue! If we think cellphones are distracting while driving, imaging what a video screen showing a movie would do to the driver!

I just pray that one of these cars (i.e., modified to show a DVD on the front screen while moving) does not ever get in an accident with a movie going. Putting aside the risk of injury or death for a moment, the legal liabilities for even a simple fender bender would be very high (maybe beyond liability clauses in insurance policies) and assuming the local prosecutors don't take you in for criminal negligence too!

I see your point but man your posts show that you really harp on CYA...as if your livelihood is at stake.

Nope, not "CYA" at all (and my livelihood is certainly not involved in the slightest) ... stems from a real and personal belief that people need to be safe and not hurt/kill themselves. Or others. And, yes, also the lesser (lives come first) issue of legal liability, since that has financial implications for people.

When I was younger, not married and did not have a 10 year old, I did my share of things (driving high speeds is a good example) that I simply would not consider doing anymore. Because, now, other people are depending on me to be around - not just for financial, but emotional reasons. I don't want my 10 year old to grow up without me around to help him learn!

A stand up dad and a fine citizen indeed. I can respect that.Your second paragraph is a testament to the wisdom parenthood imparts on one's perspective on life.

Thanks, but I also certainly hope it is not an uncommon perspective on the role and duties of a parent.

I am not being an idealist ... just hoping that being responsible for ones children is not considered wrong by the current generation of parents (I am an old fart now from the previous gen ).
