Car: It was an 89 pulsar wait don't laugh it had an sr20det swap

All right so I've pretty much made up my mind that I want to buy a 300zx but I have heard that there are some durability issues with the engine. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on that. Also I was told that simple maintenance on the engine like changing the spark plugs is a pain in the a**. Is this true? If so how much of a pain are we talking? If I were to buy an NA 300 how hard would it be to swap in a TT? Would it be worth the time and money to turbo the NA? Thanks.

Depending on what year you get, the older style injectors tend to go bad. Other problems that usually occur are things like O2 sensors.

As for working on your own car, it can be quite difficult. Most people tend to delete a few things to make pulling the plenum much easier. Also, unless you have small hands, even things like changing the headlight bulbs can be quite difficult.

As for TT swapping, everyone can agree that just buying a TT from the start is much easier and cheaper in the long run. That being said the only reason to ever TT swap your car would be if you have a 2+2 or a slicktop, both which werent imported to the US in TT.

Should definitely buy the TT if you have the chance. Way too expensive to swap the TT into the N/A. The only reason anyone should really ever do a swap is 1) You want the weight distribution of the 2+2 or 2) you have had your N/A too long and are FAR too attached to it. (both of which apply to me

As far as maintenance goes, the engines are pretty much bulletproof. They, like all other cars, have their quirks, but nothing serious. The most common thing is injector failure, which is also one of the harder things to replace. It requires you to pull the upper intake plenum, which is about a 4 hour job. spark plugs you can do with the plenum in, but to get to #'s 5&6, you have to remove the balance tube. The main issue with working on these engines is SPACE. It's so cramped that it makes anything difficult. Trust me, though. Drive a Z32 and you will be hooked. All in all, they're a pretty expensive to maintain car, but well worth it. By far one of the most fun cars to drive that I know.
