I am looking to get an extra key for my 06 M35x. Called the dealer and they indicated this was going to cost about $300.00. Has anybody tried to order an intelligent key like below and had the dealer program? What has the dealer charged to program and do they do it without getting the key from them?

This particular one will not work on your M of course. I have seen ones come up for sale on eBay sometimes. Best prices are likely to be at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com though.

Most dealers will charge something to program all the keys (max of four at any given time can be used, as I recall), but it depends on your relationship with them. I have bought three Infiniti cars from Frontier Infiniti since 1991, and have an excellent relationship with my Service Manager - I am sure that I can get him to program for me for free. But this is because of my particular history with them.

If you buy one off ebay there is a chance that it may not work. I have programmed many keys people have bought on their own and there are a few different keys for different models and different years you need to ensure that any product you do buy is either guaranteed to work with your car or warrantied if it fails.

The charge at most dealers is 1 hour of labor to program however many keys you get. They may have a deal if you buy it through them but they are not cheap no matter where you get it. There is no way other than to have the dealer program them.

I bought a perfectly new fob w/a blank key for about $85 US on E-Bay. You have to make sure the ID numbers of your old key match those of the new key.

I took it to a Nissan dealer and he programmed it (needs all your fobs) for $40 US.

Thanks for the advice. I am planning to get a second key. Who cut your key? Can Walmart do it?

Anyone who knows how to cut a key. But make sure they know how to cut keys-cuz you only get one blank w/each fob. Oh, also make sure your fob has a blank along w/it. A lot of fobs on E-Bay don't!

I just bought a new, never been cut, intelligent key off eBay. It cost me about $50 including shipping. I then got the key cut at Home Depot for free, put in a new battery from WalMart and then the local dealer programmed it for free as a courtesy under warranty. It works perfectly and the dealer couldn't tell it wasn't original - the tech assumed it lost the programming due to a dead battery.

Macmanks-Can you let me know who the seller was on ebay? I have been looking to do the same. From what info i can gather, you saved yourself about 250.00 dollars.

The seller on eBay is artiway. Price for uncut key/fob is $39.99 plus $12.99 shipping. Just check your current Intelligent key FCC id to be sure you get the correct one. You can find it by removing the key and looking at the fob where the key wold normally cover. If your eyes are as old as mine you may need a magnifying glass!

Best to you!

Thanks! I ordered a couple last night. Will see if I am able to get free programming by my dealer. I am scheduling 12K service in the next week and will give it a go.
