well, i am dumping my ka-t i think, but was curious as to what you all's thoughts were on a t3/t04e 57trim .63ar

i would be taking this turbo off my current ka-t and putting it on the CA. just curious if anyone has a similar set-up, and what they thought of it, or any reasonable guesses as to what i could do with this set-up.

i have tried searching every combination of ca ca18 and ca18det with turbo, t3 etc... i can think of and havnt' came up with anything.

thanks,Terry

ur leaving ur KA-Turbo for a C18....... ! (knock some sense into ya) Dude just stay with the KA what made u change ur mind about the KA? U have the ability to go further with a KA...but its ur chose in the end...My vote is for the KA-Turbo.

well, my ka isn't very strong, and the cost to swap a ca and do a few upgrades to it would cost the same as rebuilding my ka. plus i want something different, i wanted a ca18det before the ka, and i think i would be happier with it.

but you will be so much faster with the KA. Look at it this way "honda langauge" Would u rather trade ur H22 for a B16??...... Just buy another KA. A healthly KA with turbo...u'll again reliaze how potential the KA really is..

regardless you are going to have to pull the motor and if you are looking for big hp 250+ you are going to have to rebuild the CA anyways. i always heard that its a good idea to rebuild the CA before you install it regardless. now won't it be easier to rebuild the KA then to purchase a CA wait on shipping and everything and then throw it in with hopes of big hp.. then be right where you are now and needing to rebuild. and since you are taking the turbo off your KA you wont get that much money for selling it. my honest opinion. since you already have a boosted KA. take it out and rebuild it. and throw it back in. now if you need it as a daily or whatever buy a empty shortblock and rebuild that one and over the weekend do a short block swap that is just my .02

if you really want to go CA then welcome to the team. i am trying to order mine. that turbo should flow pretty well but ask some of the veterans about how well it would work..

IN ANSWER TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION, that turbo is a bit big for the CA. If you want any sort of decent spool up time on the CA with a t3/t4 turbo, plan on a .48 hotside. Also, that 57trim isn't going to spool up until REALLY late. A 50trim is a much better choice.

For those of you bashing his motor choice, lay off. I'm sure he's compared the two and made an educated decision.

And even if he hasn't who are you to tell him he's making a bad decision?

actually, i don't have to wait on shipping, hopefully if all goes well, i should be purchasing a CA motorset from a member of these boards with some of the basic upgrades, and gaskets replaced. and it am pretty competent when it comes to working on a 240, and i feel i can probably get the swap done in about a week maybe less depending on my work and school schedule. not really a cost thing, or a time thing, as both are going to take the same amout of time and cost roughly the same amount of money, it is more of a challenge thing and being different thing (i have only heard of about 2 or 3 ca18's in my state)

awesome, if/once i get this motorset, i am going to have to see if i can talk anyone into a trade, their smaller turbo for my bigger turbo.

i appriciate you giving me a straight forward answer.

Dont listen to anyone on here unless they have actually owned a ca18det equipped car. and the stock CA is go to WAY over 250hp with a good tune. Plus most of the ppl. telling you that probably havent driven a 260-300whp s-chassis either which is kinda scary. I was originally going to go with a ka turbo had the entire kit (mani, turbo, oil lines, exhaust, intercooler, piping) then my second KA got a rod knock.... I said enough is enough and swapped it for the ca, much differnt power delivery, much smoother, and more quiet. Also get close to 28-30mpg highway. Plus the CA is just as easy to get parts for as the KA is. Just tell um' its for an 88 pulsar se.

hey no shipping right on!!! in that case get the CA! i wanted to get it when i had my S14 but that got totaled and i didn't want emissions so datsun 510 here i am with a ca18 on the way. The ONLY reason i said rebuild is from personal experiance. with an engine that is over 10 years old and you don't know the history of it and its boosted and you are planning on throwing a non factory turbo on it. and pushing the motor beyond its factory trim even back in the day in its prime. yes you can properly do it but personally i wouldn't even want to risk throwing a rod thru the side of the block and needing to source a whole new block. but that is just me and how i do things. i play safe and have fun. now i am not knocking you if you do decide not to rebuild that all is personal choice. but i recommend it so you know what you have and how well it will do with you without being a timebomb. especially when you crave that hp.. and believe me you will

Going the CA18 route is a good way to go. Sure it's a 10 year old engine. Who cares..people worry about not being able to get parts for it. That's because they don't take the time to do research. Though, i do agree upon refreshening the engine. But yes, it is 100% possible to make 250-300WHP! using a stock set-up, but of course using a Front Mount Intercooler..and with a good tune. FYI: The RB series engine was designed off of this little wonder we call "CA18DET" A.K.A the Baby Skyline. which is what it is..I happened to make 400whp using a t3/t4 60-1 turbo with a .63 trim. Using an SDS Standalone Engine Management System. I'm gonna take my time, learn to drive it the way it is..and then think about trying to get more out of it. Another good thing about these engines compared to the KA is that it is not lazy. You can rev these engines 8000rpm +..Wouldn't recommend bumping all the time without a good rebuild and cams but with a good set-up like mine or better, you can rev as far as 8500-9000rpm.

These engines are rare and I love em' because of that. I'll let everyone follow everyone's route and use the SR's and KA's. I'll stick to my "Little Wonder"

You're making a good, wise choice! If you have any questions just ask around.

I've actually got a Garret t3/t04e 57 trim with a .50 hotside, and I'll agree, it spools up realllly late. But I don't mind it so much. I like the feeling of someone kicking you in the seat of your pants. It also makes for good gas mileage. I got a really good deal on it, which is why I bought it. But in order to run the turbo efficiently, you'd have to run at least 15psi on it, which I am not doing.
