dump pipe idea

if i were to get a dump pipe, would it be possible to save and reuse the cat when it comes time for smog check?

i.e. if i take out the cat convertor, can't i reuse it by covering the ends and not exposing it to pollution, leaving whatever is left of the platinum intact?

If the cat is still good and you take it out I dont see why it wouldnt work if you put it back in again. Its not like it needs to be attached to a car to work properly or else it dies.

Just make sure you buy new exhaust gaskets everytime you do it.
