ok, my trunk has a hard time opening. i usually have to give the handle by the seat at least 5-10 tries before the trunk opens, and for some reason my key doesn't seem to want to open the trunk either (ignition key) but on my dad's sentra the key works for everything, wierd, anybody have a similar problem or a solution? thanks, matt

my '90 hatch has a similar problem... but not exactly... my prob is that it wont open at all, without the assistance of another person... i have to pull the release and my friend goes and pull up the trunk itself... or if im back there one hand to turn the key, and the other to lift the trunk... i think the problem with my car though is that the pistons that hold up the trunk are too worn out...

i know its not exactly what you were looking for... but i hope it gives you some insight

did U search?try it... this has been asked B4

anyway, matt, your problem sounds worse than nismods... Im guessing the lock is just f'd up. and maybe the release too...

to both of you I ask if you have hatches or coupes. If U have a hatch, it will never open with the factory wing (and only sometimes without). The foam monster puts so much weight on the back, the hatch will not pop out of the lock and it just closes back onto it.

People have posted about getting aftermarket struts for the hatch, but if that doesnt work the only thing I can think of is attaching something to the rubber bumpstops on the lid to extend them, that way when you pop the lid, it will jump out of the lock better.

i have a 96 coupe, with the factory spoiler, so sounds about right, i'll try adn see if holding the release helps, tha handle by the seat feels kinda floppy, so though there might be some slack in the line (if it works that way), but i'll see waht works and what doesnt, thanks

P.S. I though this was an odd issues so i didnt think it would be covered

hmm, alright, i guess i'll check the whole mechanism, see waht's going on, or it may just be the spoiler thing, but it always opens after a few tries, so i dunno, if i find anyting, i'll post back,

I had the same problem, and I fixed it with WD-40. You have to open your trunk, remove the plastic panel that covers the latch mechanism and spray some WD-40 on the latch, You'll know what it is when you see it. That fixed it for me, although I'm thinking another reason for that happening is stretching of the cables.

OK if you have a hatch take the inside panels outs (the ones that cover the taillights and latch). Once that cover is out take a 10mm wrench and loosen the bolts on the latch. Move it down just a bit and tighten it. try the hatch again, if it makes a loud pop sound and opens enough that you can open it with out someone else your done. IF not loosen the bolts again and try again. You will gte it sooner or later. Mine wouldnt open without someone else when i frist got it too. Thsi fixed it.

i didnt do anything wiht the trunk this weekend cause it was brutally cold and my garage is creappy and not heated, but do you think it should work for an S14? i'm thinking of getting some rubber stopper thingers to change out for the ones i got now, so they bump the trunk up, if all else fails

mine was working just fine until i realized something... or found something out...

i was so happy to have my trunk fixed so i wanted to try it out a few times... so i go in the car... pop the trunk... close the door... go the back... and wth !... it doesnt open !!!... so i go back in the car... pop the trunk... close the door... go to the back... wth ! doesnt open again !!!... so i figured out that my latch is either loose (i didnt tighten it too tight) or just that the trunk sucks ***... i think it sucks ***... i mean... if the door closes hard enough... its enough to shake the whole car and make the trunk fall back into the latch locking it back up... so i have to be careful when i close my door... kinda whack... i think ill take it apart again and tighten it up more this time... ill also try to extend the rubber stumps... that should help it too...

I used to have a Maxima that had a valet key that would not open the trunk or the glove compartment...maybe this is the case?

You can do it yourself, there is a great how to posted on the FAQ of 240sx.org or you can bring it to autozone and they can do it for you, but I would rather do it myself....
