How do you tell if a truck is standard model SE XE. 1991 hardbody ext cab looked up VIN but does not say what package is. I have been asked this when ordering some parts. So far parts are right but wonder what the difference in standard xe and se package was. I have original sticker from dealer it says nothing. Has full chrome package and AC power steering 5 speed etc. How do I know or how can i figure out which model mine actually is? Thanks again for indulging my ignorance

If your truck has no other stickers identifying it as an SE then it is most likely an XE model.

The only difference between an XE and SE is cosmetic stuff and some interior creature comforts.

Drive train, electrical and body are all the same.

VIN look up on this site VIN does not cover add on packages like chrome and trim. Mine is all chrome 2.4 litre cloth ac power brakes and steering buckets kin cab. It is probably a XE but if so what does SE offer mine did not get. The original owner bought most or all add ons. Not sure if leather or power seats or mirrors came on the 2.4 just the 3.0 6 cylinder. maybe I am wrong, I will assume XE until I get info showing difference between SE and XE. Thanks again you guys are very helpful.

It's been my experience that an XE can be optioned up with everything that you find on an SE. It's just that some of those options are standard with the SE package. Typically, a small sticker on the tailgate is where it's noted. I rather doubt the VIN will differentiate.

On later D22 trucks, the trim color was a bit darker on the SEs, vs. the XEs.

Actually the VIN won;t tell you everything as I found out last week, it won't tell you Hitachi or Mitsu ignition system.

XE is a hopped up base model. It's the base model plus power steering, chrome wheels, graphics package (there was a graphics delete option), chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome mirror covers, power mirrors on some, tachometer, AC, chrome outside handles, full carpeting, rear slider window. That is out of a 95 sales brochure.

SE is a hopped up XE which adds a more finished interior, better sound system, rear tailgate finisher, graphics package, multi adust drivers seat, tilt, trip odometer, lsd, power mirrors, alloy wheels.

Elusive are 2wd SE's and even more elusive are regular cab SE's but there were a few including a v6 reg cab 2wd. Most SE's were v6's though 4cylinders are known to exist, nissan offers graphics kits for them.

SE's also have different tailgates, they have pre-cut holes for the finisher panel.

Base Model 2wd: {aftermarket rims}

XE 4cyl reg cab 2wd:

SE 4cyl reg cab 2wd:Door sticker reads SE4

SE-V6 reg cab 2wd:

XE 4cyl reg cab 4wd:

SE-V6 King Cab 2wd: -popup sunroof OEM

XE-V6 King Cab 2wd:

SE-V6 King Cab 4wd:

I have never seen an SE reg cab 4wd in all my hours of searching. Also missing any pics of the XE-V6 4WD. Feel free to add any if you have them.

The SE reg interior is virtually the same as the SE king cab. Silver lined plastic on the dash, better seats and the fancy door cards. I do have a couple interior shots of the gold SE I posted above, I'll have to dig them up.

Im a Nissan fanatic since my 1st mini at 16.it was 90 Nissan hard body & had the back wall blown out with solid camper crush velvet blue and white interior. Ive since owned 8 single cabs and one king. Currently last Jan i was in accident which totaled my 97 baby at 120,000 miles. I own another 97 alk are 5 speed but this one 97 only has 63,000 miles. Then have 96,95,95,94, 97 highest miles are 180,000 but motor just had total rebuild. Anyway I broke my back vertebra in accident saved motor an trans but my other 97 one owner is an automatic. Ive done everything can to these trucks bags convert hard top, BODYDROP you name it but never done trans swap cause always had 5 speed beside my 1st 90s im mechanistically inclined done it all my life. But im not able to due to my back heck I cant even sleep in a bed anymore cause cant lay flat I sit up day an night. Anyway I had budy get all parts cables computer pedals everything had do with trucks that were still good . which wasnt to much after 45mph hit to a tree. But how hard is that truck go be to change over and being low miles should I being all my others are 5 speeds. Or leave it as auto in floor w od. Help me decide guys. I cant do work I cant even get under it anymore 22 of. Jan be year since accident left me unresponsive on ventilator breathing for me I dont remember anything and a lot of memory ive lost. I use could tell you exactly how to do it an size bolts were just cause I know these trucks but hit on head cost me 90% of my memory. Im only 37 an it sucks if you guys can give advice what I should do. Or try find one who can do it i cant anymore but ive tried an had me down I couldnt get out chair for a week.
