Ok, this question really exposes me. I’ve dominated parts of the board with my ongoing 2017 Q70 radio/Nav Av module problems. I’m about to go to dealership on Tues to try reprogramming the used module which we’re trying (from previous posts, works great except for NO SOUND) and some steering wheel controls working backwards or not at all.
Anyway, there are no other exact model used modules on EBAY. There is a module which it says will work in the 5.6L version of my car, same year (25915-3JA1D), but coming out of the SUV with completely different screen appearance, etc.

THE DUMB QUESTION: If I pick up this module, when it comes time to re-configure it, will the device/Consult3+ allow me to proceed if my VIN doesn’t quite fit the module. And if not, can I enter in the VIN of the donor vehicle without the car blowing up or more catastrophic results?? Unfortunately I’ve learned that these modules do have pass-through audio sound, so highly likely I just have a current bad used Module and am back to the starting line of mailing it out for $1300, or trying one last attempt at a used one.

The configuration isn't VIN-linked and the AV Unit doesn't store the VIN. The C3+ will need to do a "Manual Configuration" and the actual characteristics for your car (camera type, Bose/non-Bose, etc) need to be selected and downloaded. The part number for the unit determines the firmware and hardware and everything else besides the configuration, and we've already determined that the replacement unit is the right p/n for your car. So if the unit is healthy, proper configuration should be all you need.

K VStar. Thanks again. Great explanation.

Keep the board posted about what the dealer finds.

For sure. Thanks for asking. I was first in line at the dealership this AM (7:30 here in Hawaii). Anxiously waiting.

AMAZING DEALERSHIP DAY. Here for 3 hours. Mechanic and service person told me they had tried programming many times and module would not take it. I kept telling him about the SERVICE BULLETIN, and need to skip steps if couldn’t get preexisting codes (from ITB). Anyway, miraculously, he actually let me go back with him and watch on the consult device. I personally went thru step by step from ITB, and after 2nd try it started downloading. After more playing around the SOUND CAME BACK ON. PERFECTLY. The only thing that never came back was the steering wheel audio controls. Only half work. I can live with that. Doesn’t appear to be a program issue. Thanks much to all for the help.

Ok. Thoroughly enjoying the beautiful sound and Bluetooth with new used module now programmed. So before I forget to ask: what is the most likely reason for the steering wheel switch issues which began after the new Av module install. No change before or after programming, and all steering buttons worked before first module went out. So possibilities are:1. Used module issue-I doubt it given everything else working perfectly; 2. Wire or connector issue related to module replacement- done 3 times, maybe did something to the harness or spiral wires.3.Switches- doubt it. Worked before. The current function is interesting: source doesn’t work, Enter (most important)works, same button channel up goes down, down doesn’t work. Volume down doesn’t work, volume up brings up the settings menu!, Talk and phone don’t work. The enter button working perfectly, channel up going down, and volume up having entire new function w settings menu makes me think it might be a ground issue?? Since it’s 2
Different signal circuits?? Spiral cable seems unlikely since not close to wires which were removed/replaced. I want to collect ideas now so after the honeymoon period with the new functioning module is over we’ll be able to attack the steering controls. Thanks in advance.

One other thought. From the Av Service manual- The switch buttons work with different resistance levels. The 2 zero resistance ones don’t work. The next 2 lowest (volume up, Channel up) work but incorrectly. The highest Ohm one (Enter button) works perfectly. It’s like there’s signal/voltage but things are screwed up. I spent some time looking at this fantastic service manual, but not sure what I’m looking at. Unfortunately the symptoms don’t fit exactly into their list of problems and solutions. If the talk doesn’t work, but other functions do, seems to be a circuit issue? Anyway, food for thought. Not planning on looking at wires for at least a month, just planning on easiest strategy (like unplug/Re plug before circuit testing everything or other)

Even more interesting, the volume up button brings up the Phone menu with quick dial, call history, etc. That’s a strange one. Circuit resistance, programming? Some oddity? Again, I’m thrilled with the module working and sound (Bluetooth truly slightly faster than before), more out of interest/hobby I’m playing with this (old retiree w too much free time).

The s/w control buttons use a resistor-ladder setup which produces different output voltages unique to each button. On some cars the cluster reads it and passes signals to the AV, on others the AV reads it directly. Not sure how your ride is configured and I can't look it up right now, I'm at Nissan school (somebody has to fix the new Ariyas, and for now it'll be the old fart with the electrical knowledge). Either way, you must have either some scrambled voltages or a scramble in the firmware.

Great VStar. Thanks. Wow.That Ariyas looks pretty cutting edge, must be all sorts of new technology that can misbehave. Is the class a week or a year? Seriously, probably interesting and state of the art stuff, you’ve got the experience needed to add some new chapters of information. Good luck. G

Lol, two days, but you can't get in if you aren't already an electrical specialist with EV and HEV certification.

Delayed final (hopefully) follow up. After enjoying the Stereo/Bluetooth/Nav for 5+ months, decided to tackle the steering column controls again (audio side). Lucked out with identical 2017 Q70 Bose radio from a totaled vehicle for only $200. 40 minutes later it was plug and play perfect, everything 100%. Steering column, Nav, phone etc. VStar was absolutely right on here. Even though the dealer, customer service and online parts places said that 259153ja2C would work, it only partially worked despite correct firmware upgrade. Presumably had different set up for steering column in SUV it came from. Had to get identical 259153ja2b unit which had been removed. Anyway, back on business, and thanks to all again.
