Dumb newbie question about Models

Hi All,

New member. I have a question that I am sure you guys can easily answer. I have seen people list what I guess to be different model variations in their posts (ie Y34, Y50, Y44, etc.).

What exactly does this mean and how can one tell which one their are? I have a 2006 M35 Sport.

Dumb question but curious.

Y34 refers to the previous generation of M's, i.e. 2003-2005. Y50 refers to the current generation (2006-2010 or 2011)
