My daughter bought a used 2013 Rogue with 88k on it right at 1 year ago. She bought it from an older gentleman who worked for our local newspaper as a photographer. He bought it new and it was never abused. Now with 97k on it, the Transmission has started to whine really bad when it is cold in the morning. I took it to the dealer and they told me the transmission has to be replaced at 3600 dollars!

I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and they called me this morning. They said the vehicle was out of warranty by 37k miles, but as a good will measure, they would be willing to pay 70% of the replacement and I would have to pay 30%. Yay Nissan! I think that was great and am more than happy to pay just 30% instead of the whole 3600. I am very pleased with their gesture.

So anyways, I am wondering about the trans cooler. The one in my daughters car is leaking, and led to the trans failure. The AC condenser has oil all over it from the leaking trans cooler. I am considering replacing the trans cooler with the same type as original mounted in the grill, and putting a second hayden 697 style in line also. So in effect, it would come out of the trans and into the 4 port cooler (The one of the side of the tras that has coolant flowing though it). It would exit the four port cooler and go into the Nissan grill mounted cooler. It would exit that cooler and go into the hayden 697 cooler, and from there back into the transmission.

Any thoughts on this or is the Nissan grill cooler usually good enough if it isnt leaking?

Thanks for any advice.

Is it a CVT or a true automatic?

If a CVT, stick with the factory cooler. CVT can be sensitive to over-cooling as well as overheating.

If a true automatic, a second cooler can't hurt, and additional capacity is always good - although there's not much room (without hampering airflow through the condenser / radiator).

I have the front mounted cooler on my '10 that's on the second transmission. It has helped a great deal and I'm sure it has extended the life of the transmission. Just be sure to put the feed lines in the proper place on the aux cooler regarding attachment at the the top and bottom, make them the same as as they are on the Nissan unit.
