I found a set of dual SU's with a manifold for $250 or a new Weber 32/36 DFAV for $150. What are the pros and cons? I really have no idea, but I want to get a little more power out of the engine. I also want it to be reliable.

Thanks for your help.

You will have to synchronize the dual SU's. My Dad's friend had a 1976 Triumph TR7 98hp 2.0l slant-4 with dual Zenith's stock, (Zenith's are SU copy's), and he always had trouble keeping them in sync. He would get them right, and it would last a few weeks. They're ok when they run right, lots of people have them. As far as power, you are only as good as the rest of the engine, this is where other mods come in...

I have the SU's on my Z and they are really very easy once you understand them. Go to Ztherepy.com and you will get a lot of info there on how to adjust and rebuild. You WILL need a synchronizing tool to get them right, but it is not hard at all. Make sure your SU's are NOT off a Z, they are 44mm and too big. The L engine is really made for sidedraft carbs, it breathes better that way, so my recommendation would be the SU's.

I've run both the SU's and a 32/36 weber, as well as a pair 40 DCOE carbs.

The SU's flow fine for a stock to mild L series, if you go over 2.0L you can move up to the larger 240Z carbs.

I run 240Z SU's on my L24B (Z24 with L20 head)

the best carbs for DD are the SU's and as was stated above, one you have a sync tool and understand them they are no problem.

just be sure to check clearance for the air cleaners, on some vehiclesthere is an problem between the brake Booster/master and the aircleaner.

if you go for the weber, be sure to get one with the electic choke (DFEV).the DFAV you are looking at is the water choke

Good luck, John
