I looked at a maxima ('92 as I recall) the other day whose a/c had suddenly stopped working. Turns out the condensor fan had died causing rediculously high pressure. In turn, the safety pressure release valve popped open, venting the refrigerant. So... does the maxima not have a dual pressure switch to cut the compressor when the high side pressure raises over a set level? I couldn't find one, but it was very dark when I looked at it and I didn't know where to look for it. I expected to find it on the drier, but I didn't. Am I the only one who finds it odd that the pressure got high enough for the release valve to pop?

usually the ac will cut off if the TEMP gets high enough...im not sure if it has a high pressure switch or not, but i do not belive so. the pressure valve is there for safety and prevents damage to your entire system from over pressurizing.

there is a pressure switch, but unsure if there's a condenser fan..as far as i know the condenser is mounted in front the radiator and is air cooled as well as cooled by the radiator fan(s) which stays on as long as the ac is on. it just prevents the compressor from engaging. The switch doesn't vent anything, regardless of how high the pressure is..it'll just prevent the compressor from increasing pressure in an already high pressure environment. So as far as the problem on the maxima being an overheating ac system i doubt it..probably a leak somewhere.
