Do you mean cable or screw at throttle body? You can adjust idle at the TB via the BISS. Or try cleaning out the TB to get rid of any build up over the years. Check the caps on the ecu to see if any are leaking. try to reconnect the BOV back to the intake if he's venting to atmosphere. I am by no means a DSM guru but these should give him some direction.

alrighty , thanks , were blowing back into the intake system...we tried it by blowing to the atmosphere but it would stall the car every time cus the MAFS couldn't keep up....we cleaned out the mafs housing and it itself and the throttle body and buncha stuff did comje out and also the IBC(motor to control idle) and there was stuff on that aswell...the idle is still screwy after all these have been cleaned..we'll try some more and if it doesn't work we'll take it to Stay Tuned , a tuning shopping in Elmira NY..thanks again and keep the suggestions comming

also check for vacuum leaks and intercooler pipe leaks. on my dsm my idle would get real screwy when there was a leak. i dont think its the ecu because when my ecu went the car would just randomly die and i would be able to start it. but to check the ecu, smell it. if it smells like fish then pull the cover and see if you can see some leaking from the caps. if it smells then the ecu is bad. also one other thing to check is the idle control valve. sometimes you swap that out and get one from another car and that should fix your idle. hope this helps.

tsi awd is great in the winter! very fun car to have. I owned a 91 tsi awd brand new and wish I never sold it. Best car I ever had....fun, fast, reliable, handled great with BFG comp TA vr4s.

of course he needs help, he owns a DSM (comming from a former 1g owner)

anyway..

Adjust the idle with Basic Idle Set Screw, not throttle cable. check the Idle Air Control Valve...

check compression hot, sometimes 4g63s can be tricky they like to behave drastically different hot to cold

theres more to check too, but if these things dont get you there, sit down with the FSM and start checking things, it's gotta be in there somewhere
