Is there a dry sump oil pan made for the CA? My oil pan was dented all to hell when I got it so I figured I'd upgrade while the engine was out. I've heard of people having them custom made, mostly people with Datsun 510's or 1200's, but I was wondering if anyone made one commercially. Thanks in advance! :)

Man dry sump is a big deal. External belt driven oil pump and a big external tank. Dosent seem to practical, But Im sure someone could make you the setup. There are better ways to spend 1500 bucks.

Well, if it's going to cost me 1500 dollars then it's not going to happen. I'm hoping to be able to put something together for less than that. I think it's going to boil down to studying some of Moroso's designs, then using a cad program to mock up a custom setup for the CA. Theres a local welder that would be able to put it together from aluminum for me. I was just hoping that there might have been an easier alternative :).

The oil pump is what's really going to kill me. I have a lot of room for it from removing the AC compressor assy, but that still doesn't make them any cheaper, lol. I'm not too worried about mounting the oil tank. It's only got to hold 4-5 quarts right? That's not a huge amount. Add an oil filter relocation kit and a breather tank and I should be good to go, right?

you dont have to have an external oil pump! you can still use the stock pump, or a modified one.

is there any reason to do this? there are plenty of high hp CA's without this kind of stuff (in fact I've never head of or seen a set up like this on a CA) even if it only costs $500 there are countless ways to spend that money... if you really have a f'd up oil pan, cut the bottom out, and have someone weld a new bottom piece on:)

Wet sump is adequate, I have NEVER seen a dry sump CA. It's not bad it's just overkill.

Mmm, I know it's a bit over the top, but unforunately I'm the anal type and it just seems like having oil stored in a tank rather than at the bottom of the oil pan makes more sense. Logical reasoning aside, however, there are some other benefits as well. Less windage, easier plumbing... It just seems like a good idea, but I've actually gotten the same response (that it's not worth it) from pretty much everyone I've spoken to...

It just seems to me that even though each benefit in itself isn't really worth it, all of them add up to be a very good thing... Am I making sense or am I just looking for a way to burn a hole in my pocket?

I'm thinking of doing this with my CA as well, (all electric pumps) I guess I just like the idea of being able to have oil pressure before I even start the engine. It would be nice to have an electric water pump to keep the water circulating in the engine/turbo/radiator for a couple of minutes just after the engine shuts off to keep everything from baking so much under the hood.

there is no need for it but if you are saying "I'm going to do it because it gives me a chubby" then I'm all for it. I mean I had GT-R brakes on 150hp NA CA18 Silvia, we're kindred spirits!:)

TOGA makes a high volume unit that fits right into the stock location. That's what I'm going to do and I'm quite sure it will be more than plenty. I think it's right at $200

if you get one for a DE, wouldn't you have to weld in a bung for oil drainage from the turbo?

the oil drain goes into the oil pan. It has nothing to do with the pump. Thanks for the link minuterice...

Interesting, thanks for the link. They list the L as a "V6" but that's another thread topic:pface
