ok a friend of mine recently tipped me off that holding a block of dry ice to a small dent for 5 min or however long it takes makes the dent pop out... he says motorcycle ppl use that to fix small dents... I've tried it but I haven't held the dry ice that long... so far the results aren't too obvious so I'm gonna try it again, this time holding it for at least 5 or 6 minutes... just wondering what other technics'tips you guys use to get rid of those small dents that just annoys you yet you don't wanna take it to a shop or take off the whole panel for it...

I have been riding and denting motorcycles for five years. I know several mechanics and generally smart bike people. And I have never, ever heard of such a thing.

But, I am always open to things that work. So, if it works, let me us know.

I have heard this before also and I tried it to no avail. I was looking it up and found a site that has something to say. Quote »Do we use dry ice? There is a nationwide perception that dents disappear when you place dry ice on the surface of a heated dent. Because each dent varies in size, shape, depth, and location, dents cannot be removed using this method.. We don't use any heating or cooling. Dents are removed using the same method throughout the U.S.

http://www.pdqtools.com/[/quote]But then I found a site that said it would work, so who knows.Quote »DRY ICE METHOD OF DENT REMOVAL

For small dings and dents, a process of heat and extreme cold may force the dent out on its own. Heat the dent with a specialized tool or blow dryer. Once its heated, apply dry ice directly on to the dents surface. The dent should pop out.

NOTE: Dry ice can cause damage to skin instantly. Always wear gloves when handling dry ice.

hey.. yea I think there might be some truth in this method... I realize that it's no miracle solution but... if it works once, then yo saved your self some $$$... if you think about it, metal has memory, a dented metal is expanded, the extreme cooling will contract metal backto its original shape?? I dunno but that's the only thing I can come up with so far. I will try it w/ a blowdryer and see how well it works.

They did that on Monster Garage to pop a dent out of a PT Cruiter's roof. It just ended up ruining the paint and making the dent twice as big.

Just a word of caution.

Dry-ice is super dangerous. I've seen someone use hold it in a lab once and the piece slipped underneath his sleeve...ended up leaving a frostbite trail about 9inches long on his forearm...

Heh I wanted to try the dry ice idea, but I'd rather not mess up my paint. I'm gonna go to target later today and buy a ding king...oooo 19.99.

well the dents I'm talking about are small... smaller than what ding king can fix... ;[ I had one of those... anyway last time I tried it didn't mess up the paint...but I've only held it for 2 or 3 minteus at the longest, and I will try longer this time ...

It does work, it is the principal of heat & quench to shrink the metal, be sure that the vehicle has been in the sun so metals hot before applying the dry ice, I sometimes use a heat gun or heat lamp to heat up the offending area better than the sun does then place dry ice on it and the coldness causes the metal to shrink popping the dent out.
