Hello everyone. I have been here off and on for a while now. Mostly when I have the time.
I finally started phase one of my build, The Tear Down.
This is my second '89 coupe. I had to strip and junk the previous one. Too badly damaged. That was a very sad day. It was my first Nissan, 240SX and car I ever bought on my own. I even spent a night in jail because of it (long story).
This one I got early last year from a guy in CT. Paid $650 for it. Has to be the cleanest 20 year old car I have ever found. Minimal rust, if any at all. When I got the car it barely drove, bad head gasket. Didn't care. It had everything I wanted.
This build may take me a while. Mostly due to time and weather (don't like doing anything in the cold). I plan on making this a clean build. Paying attention to all the details. It is 20 years old and I plan on making it another 20++++.
Future: Either 2JZ or LS1...leaning more to the 2JZ, I am a big fan of inline 6 engines. I found a SC kit for the 2JZ. So that may seal the deal. Also, may have a IS300 coming my way for cheap as a donor. Either engine would be completely rebuilt.
I have not done much research on suspensions yet but I do plan on having a car that can out handle just about anything. I love handling and if you know NYC, I love the Jackie Robinson Highway.
The chassis will be done over. he interior and exterior will be coated to protect against rust and also sound and heat padding. Only the best will do here. I also plan on spot welding.
The interior will not be sporty. I am aiming for comfort and technology. But that is not to say it will not perform if needed.
The exterior will stay the same. I am looking for a basic kit. Nothing flashy at all (maybe the rims will stand out). I want the engine bay and suspension to do all the talking.
This is what I have done so far. I want to remove the front suspension, engine and transmission by next week. Hopefully I can. Then that would be all until next summer.
