Hey Guys, I know it's not that momentous of an occasion, but I drove my 'vert for the first time today. I bought the car while I was still in Afghanistan (Army Contractor) in January, and just got home. Weather was nice, top down was fun fun fun, and traffic was light.

I bought an SR motor as well, and will be building that this month. Be on the lookout for a build thread

Welcome back and thanks for your service overseas. Cary huh? hmmm, I just might ask to "oversee" your engine swap to see all that's required.

I've been threatening to do the 5-speed swap ever since I've owed the car but am too chicken to do on my own. Phantasm in Raleigh wanted $2000 just for the transmission swap! Seeing one pulled first hand might help. It's been many years since I helped a buddy pull an engine and change out transmission components.

As you get closer let me know if you'd mind me looking over your shoulder and maybe even doing some of the heavy lifting - or at least getting my son too.

What shop did you go to? I know a guy here who runs a shop and I will see him tonight. I will see what he usually charges for a swap and let you know. He might be able to go lower than 2k.

I don't know yet when I will be doing the swap, and where...my garage isn't suitable. But if where I do it is cool with visitors, you're more than welcome. And the more hands the merrier. You should be able to do the 5-speed swap yourself. And once I have done it, I would be happy to help you and your son do yours, too.

How is the weather in Willow Spring? The sun is out and the top is down today

Sounds good. I took it to Phantasm Motorsports in Raleigh and got the quote there. I'm thinking it should be half that if not less.

I'd be happy to turn a wrench for you to see the process.

And I'm in Wake county so the weather here is the same as it is there. Storms every freakin night this week!

When you're getting closer email me at cmkelly @ mindspring.com
