Man...it kicks ***. haha. After all the BS, I finally got my car back today. It was really enjoyable to drive, well worth my money I do believe. Pretty fun stuff right there. If the weather is calm tomorrow (nothin but rain for the past 2 weeks here in NW Florida...good stuff) I'll try and get some pics of my car.

But heres a few problems I got...Yeah, I know I can search but I'm tired and got class early in the morning...

1) What in the world is a coilpack and how does that work?

2) The cool rednecks up here in Crestview (If anyone is from around this area, ya'll know what I'm talkin bout) at Advanced Auto Parts are kinda Stups...he wasnt aware of what to sell me when I told him I needed parts for a tune up. How many spark plugs does the CA have? 4 or 8? Or no where near that number? Just a real quick run down on what I need would be much appreciated. Chances are, I'll end up searchin anyways...thanks

Jason

Coilpacks > Distributor. It replaces the job of the distributor and its more efficient since the acts directly on the spark plug. No spark plugs wires or cap and rotors to mess with.

The motor uses 4 spark plugs. Use NGK BCRP6ES-11

Any parts for the motor, ask for 88 Nissan Pulsar DOHC 1.8

let me get this str8, you went out and put a ca in your car and you dont know what a coil pack is and you dont know how many plugs it has? sorry i just dont understand how somebody who obviously knows nothing about cars can go out and buy a ca or any motor swap for that matter. how did you even come to the conclusion that you even wanted a ca? just listen to your friends? or read this forum like the bible? sorry not flaming just confused.

anyway, a coil pack is what fires your spark plugs. you really dont have coil packs(you could call them that, but they not packs they are individual coils) if you have a bad coil, that cylinder wont fire, causing a miss. as for tune up parts, it depends what u want to do. its not like a domestic V8, u wont need a dist. cap, or plug wires, or a rotor. just change the oil if it hasnt been done, replace spark plugs(only 4) theres not really that much to "tune up".

The coil pack on a CA enigne is a step up transformer, it takes the signal from your power transistor module 0-28v (voltage amplifier) and steps it up to 20KVolts, which it feeds the spark plug.

But I got the some confusion as rtsl

Quote »1) What in the world is a coilpack and how does that work?[/quote] Ouch:( ! Man, you are just kidding right? If not, your coil packs are under the grey cover that Nissan Twin cam on it which sits between the two red/long metal things called valve covers. The coilpacks sit on top of the spark plugs like some of the others stated and receives their signals from the crank angle sensor (distributor looking thing on the water pump side of the engine) which then sends signals to the ecu which in turn send signals to the coilpacks which in turn fire each cylinder at it's appropriate interval.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Why does it matter that this guy's never had his hands dirty before? There's no laws that state you need 'x' amount of automotive knowledge to want a cool car with a cool motor. I commend him for being smart enough to come here to ask his questions and not make assumtions.

To the thread starter, I would suggest learning as much as you can about your car now. Having good knowledge about your car, considering it's old and is a 'hybrid', can save you money and time in the future. Don't ever be afraid to post questions though. Good luck!

i just wanted to know how he knew he wanted a CA if he knows nothing about them or any other motor in the first place. he could have just as well had a ka24de and "upgrade" to a ka24e. you have to have some kind of knowledge to make a educated purchase.

yeah, have fun with the car. all the info you should need for a tune up should be in the basic stats sticky at the top of the page i believe.

rtsol - What makes you think I have no knowledge of motors or cars at all? Just because I'm unaware of what a coilpack is doesnt necessarily mean I dont know anything atll. Lets just put it this way..."I'm new to Nissans." I had a POS crx as my first car, everything that went wrong with that car, I fixed myself. Everything that went wrong with my KA, I fixed myself. I'd rather get my "hands dirty" than to pay someone to do it for you...its called learning experience. How did I know I wanted the CA? Cause I spent a good amount of hours researching the CA and the SR and cause I had the cash for the CA at the time. Who really cares if I dont know what a coilpack is, you gotta learn someone.

But yeah, appreciate the help folks. Thats all I needed to know, thanks.

like i said i didnt mean to flame, and im sorry. if you did all this research, it would seem like you would know how many plugs it uses(could have just wnet out to the car and counted)and what a coil pack is.

Your are right, I could have went out and looked but considering it was around 1 when I posted that and it was pouring down rain. I just had no idea what a coilpack was and figured the smart thing to do would be to ask cause appereantly everyone else does except for me.

No prob with the "flaming" tho...you know how it is when someone attempts to insult your intelligence tho.

I would like to think I instigated the gayness. I didn't anticpate it to reach the levels that it is currently at, but what can I say, I do what I can.
