My brother works at Sewell Caddilac and friday he bought a GTi for inventory. They let him keep it over the weekend for a demo car. He let me have it all day saturday. MAN what an awesome machine. To be more specific it was the VW '03 GTi 25th Anniversary Edition #1244. This thing very impressive. BURN the tires straight off in third. It's only a 1.8 but damn what a turbo. It had a chip in it too. The Recarro racing seats were an awesome touch to the interior and the 18" wheels set this car off. This is a beautiful car. We had a lot of fun with it. Hard to drift in, the front wheel drive was pretty hard to get used to, came WAY to close to a couple of curbs  but it was all good. The e-brake came in real handy. Such a short wheel base make for some bad a$$ 360's. Hit 50 bull the lever, turn the wheel and dump 2nd. Definatey a good buy. They only wanted $17,600 for it and get this, it only had 8k on it. WOO!

Yeah, those are awesome cars. My buddy just bought one 2 months ago. Those 1.8's are really surprising. They have quite the turbo in there. Now I need to get him in a BRM exhaust and he needs to get a chip and intake and he'll be set.

It's ridiculous how much power is there when the boost kicks in. Anybody know what PSI they run stock? I would assume it's around 8-12 lbs but thats just a guess. It's pleanty but a month of driving would take care of that. Always faster and better.

I test drove one with the saleman, me, and my two friends in the back and the car still had great pickup. It is a really nice pkg for the price.

Yeah that rabbit kicks ***. I just can't believe that little 1.8 kicks out 180hp stock. Mind blower. The chip is suppose to give it 25-30 more right of the bat. It's a mean little car.

I love this car. Since i can't afford the 350Z or the G35. I think the GTi will be my next car of choice. Gonna ride the market out till next year and see what else may be available. The R32 is a bad a$$ little car. 240hp in that. all wheel drive. That's out my range tho. They want like 30gs for that itty bitty car. Im out. It's a bad looking mfer. Hate to stray from nissan but they've yet to make an affordable coupe. They're slackin.

I've definately thought about it. It's a good lookin car. I guess im just kinda pi$$ed cuz they havn't brought back the 240. That'd be sweet to see the new 240. I wonder what they'd call it. I know what i'd call it. Fukin sweet! They'd probably just domesticate the S-15 if they ever put any effort into it. Maybe a little S-15 VQ-VG action. I doubt they'd bring it over with the SR. hmph. :(

I have much respect for those new SE-R's, I like them a lot. But those new front ends are quite nasty. If I didn't have my 240, I'd get one of those or a WRX.

I understand what you're saying but I wouldn't be that annoyed with Nissan anymore. Actually, if you think about it , what price do you think an updated new 240sx would be if Nissan offered it today? Hmmm. In 1989, the 240sx was $15-18000 new, as was the rest of its competition. Today, the average price is of that same class of car is $24-28000. Guess where 350Z base prices start?

In retrospect, I kinda like the fact that the 240sx didn't sell well, as it makes them more special because there arent so many of them around. And because they're getting older, they're becoming very cheap to acquire.

EVO 8 would always be my car of choice when we get up into the STI, G35, 350Z range...

EVO 8, then the G35

Driving it again today. This car is TOO fun. I gotta have one. If WRX had an anniversary edition then i'd probably go with that. Something about a #'d car gets me. Plus the fact that it's tiny. I was parking it today and i got to looking, you could fit 3 in one space..lol. But theres still pleanty of room inside.

They had one of these on one of those Speed Channel shows where they take a random guy's car and do some minor mods to make it a lot better. I think they said it ran around 7-8 psi stock, and that the stock intercooler was restrictive. When they pulled it out, it was really easy to tell why. It was about the size of a deflated football. Not sure if they changed that around with this anniversary edition, but if you do end up getting it (which it sounds like you are :D), not a bad first mod.

Sounds like a tamer version of MTV's Pimp My Ride.Veedubs are nice cars, Tom. On the expensive to repair, but well built fun cars. If you're willing look at FWD, you might also want to check out the RSX. I have a friend that brings one to the track. Very fun car.

Tachyon, now fast forward 5 more years, and you'll be close to an enthusiast model Z in price.

my 91 base was $14,000 brand new :D

I dont know about newer VW's, but I had to help replace a wire harness that spontaniously combusted in a Jetta (I think it was) and let me tell you: Not Fun.

I'll vouch for GTI's being fun...26k on the clock and no complaints. A chip is a must...and an exhaust will help a heck of a lot. Stock DP is real restrictive. As for the stock intercooler, it's not that bad even when chipped. The only advantage of a FMIC with a stock sized turbo, or even a K04 is it's not going to heat soak like the little stock side mount, which is the same on all the GTI's. They push right around 0.8 bar stock, which is a little over 11.5 psi.

As for the R32, it's a helluva car. A friend of mine test drove the one we got here in town and said it handled like a dream, but was pretty disappointing in the acceleration department. The AWD really takes it's toll, and from all the numbers they've put out, a well launched 1.8t with some mods will take an R32. Now, start modding the R32, and watch the hell out! But then again, it's more to begin with...oh well...

Yeah the R32 is a HEAVY car. I don't know where they put all the weight but its around 3500 lbs. WTF? The engine is gonna be a little heavier and the AWD *** some but dam. That a heavy golf. GTI is the only way to roll. I don't think im gonna get it but i think i'll watch out for future buys. Definately a blast to drive.

Yeah...I saw figures around 3200 lbs or so for the R32. I've weighed my GTI and it's tipping the scales at 2900 lbs with 3/4 tank of gas. Just wish that AWD didn't suck up so much power. Oh well...I'm stickin' with the GTI. :D

I think a GTI with $3000 in mods and some good meat hooks on the front is the best bet. I don't think the R32 will stand a chance. A stock one anyway. They make kits for the GTI for 350hp and 390hp. Ridiculous. That's mad power in that little dub.

They definitely make some kits that put down a helluva lot of power out of the 1.8...I do sometimes wish AWD was an option on the 1.8Ts. On another note, there's a supercharger kit and a twin turbo kit for the R32 already. I'll find the specs on the HPA R32...they compare it to a Ferrari Enzo. Sure it might be a $50k Golf, but you'll be stomping on cars worth 3-4 times as much with no worries. LOL

Maybe Volkswagen will change things up for the next anniversary edition and make em rear wheel drive. That'd be tits. I wonder if it's possible to take the rear drive train out of the R32 and some how make the 1.8t AWD or rear wheel drive? Sounds like a pain but that sounds like something Monster Garage needs to tackle.
