Dropping a Q

Hey guys, whats up? Im new to the forum and wanted to get some info about dropping a Q45. Its a friends car and he came to me about doing the work for him. He said he wants to go 2in drop but im thinking that is too low, plus i havent found a kit that drops it that much. Anyways, what I wanted to know was what is the best kit to use probably about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4in drop? And if there is anything else I need to know that is different with the Q to most cars. I have lowered civics and **** like that just wondering how much harder(if any) it is on teh infiniti. Thanks for your help. Oh and im not sure if it has teh active suspension on it or not.

What year is the Q? If it is a 90-96 and has an "A" on the rear decklid, it's an "active suspension" model. I'd bet it's not or you'd know it, they're rare.

Dropping a 90-96 Q can be done - It's not a great idea as the suspension is perfect as it is. But, understanding some folks like the look of a reduced wheelwell gap, I can get you the Eibach spring kit for around $240 (best price you'll find anywhere. It drops the Q one inch, no one else makes a spring kit for that car (that I know of). It's an easy swap. I can also get the Tokico Blue shocks (stiffer/high performance) for the Q for around $340 for 4 (FAR less than you'll pay elsewhere).

Go any lower and the car will not function as designed.

Your friend is better off spending his $$$ on some top-quality, sticky tires and rehabbing the worn out suspension components.

Do a search in Infiniti Online Mechanic for the word "springs" or "Eibach" and spend some time reading. Or better yet, have HIM come in here and do his own research - There's more info here than one person can possibly digest.

I agree with AZ, the stock Q suspension is great, get some nice rubber with some strong lightwieght aluminum rims do the Tockicos all the way around and he will be happier than a Honduuh owner with bluelights on his valvecaps:D , the addition of some good tires completly changed my Q, Goodluck on the project though if you decide to do it.

Dont drop it more than 1 inch.I had a greater drop and it will give you camber problems, which you can only fix with use of a camber kit (if you can find one that fits).

Also understand that when you drop it you need to go to Togiko bLuw shocks instead of factory.

And like evryone else said, be sure to get the front supension in top shape first if these parts are still original you need to replace them: Upper links, shocks, tie-end rods, sway bar bushings.

I dropped my 1991 Infiniti Q45 2" using a custom ordered Weapon-R coil-over sleave kit with new Tokico blue struts. The ride is great and cornering is a BLAST! On badly pitted roads it does feel quite bumpy...but otherwise its a joy to ride in. My suggestion is this....drive around your area and look for pot-holes on roads you normally drive and hit them dead-on. Now imagine the impact with that pot-hole being about twice as hard. Thats what kind of ride you get when you lower any vehicle. Sure sometimes my car is quite jarring when driving through downtown Portland...but for me the benefits far out-weight the bumpiness.

i don't know if anyone has them (on a Q at least) but JIC Magic makes coilovers that should fit the Q, cost should be around $1500. Then you would have height adjustability and front camber adjustability due to pillowball mounts (only fronts camber adjustable).

hold on jeff,gotta remember some people just hit that pot hole w/there 18"rim and 35-40 series tires an need i say more.just givin you crap jeff.hehe but really.hey jeff are you going to hit that sonoma show may.big import show w/iasca inside.

Nah...I dont think so. I'm absolutly piss-poor broke. Heck...within the next 2 weeks my Q45 is gonna be repossesed unless I get a job really friggin soon. If that goes I'm thinkin of either getting a 2nd gen Stanza or a Hardbody King-Cab truck.
