hello,

I noticed a substantial fuel economy drop in my 99 sentra (1.6L) after doing the following: changing the air filter, changing the spark plugs (went to bosch platinum 2), and running some carb cleaner. I suspect that the carb cleaner did something to the O2 sensor. When i sprayed it I bypassed the air filter and went into the intake tube just before the O2 sensor. the can claimed to be O2 sensor safe. was this a bad idea all along?

I got the ODB codes read at pepboys with no results - everything was reported in order. could the OBD be lying? I get a total decrease of about 40 miles per tank - which is burning an additional gallon of fuel with each tank.

Could I figure out what the problem is without putting in a new O2 sensor? What else can it be besides that?

Thanks in advance.

Possibly the bosch plugs. Plugs I recommend for Nissans are NGK. The bosch platniums suck hairy balls on Nissans. Get some good ol' NGK coppers and see how your mileage is afterwards.

yes start with ngk plugs for sure. by o2 sensor is it possible you are refering to the maf sensor? you may have damaged the maf by spraying it too much.
