as you may already notice i am new! and i currently own a boosted 4g63...in the process of selling and want to start a project...

What i want to do is drop an SR20DET into the bay of an older Nissan truck. Not really sure of the mounting or other specifics of the project...

I know that i will need the full engine and transmission and ECU w/ harness....

where do i get this stuff and what else should i know?

I seem to recall a thread here not too long ago, about a guy who put an SR into a 2WD Nissan pickup. Overall, it seemed like a fairly easy engine swap. I think they needed to relocate the engine mounts (no big deal), but I am sure they needed to mutilate the firewall. They used a sledge hammer to cave part of it in to fit the bell-housing. The KA is a larger engine... but the SR had to be moved back farther to fit the turbo plumbing. I'll try to locate the thread and link it here.

Yeah they banged in the firewall, I believe an inch. They used the rear part of the KA transmission, and the front part of the SR. The mounts are off by like an inch or so. I have the link...but I'm not at my home computer. When I get home I'll post it.

since your all dsm and whatnot...do the mitsubishi truck turbo style. I've seen one of those that was turbo and all whee drive capable...made a badass little offroad truck-

I would NOT want a turbo in my off-road truck!!!! WAY too many problems...

1. Over heating would be an even bigger problem than usual. High RPM's and VERY slow speeds... plus the added heat of a turbo..... not good

2. The power isn't there immediatly... spool up time sucks, especially when you want torque and power in low rpm ranges.

3. The simpler the better for off road applications..... ever sucked mud through a turbo..... no good!!!

A turbo might be alright for a stricty mud-runnig truck with a snorkel intake.... but every other type of off-road use they are impractical.

Ever thought about how you're going to keep the rear-end of a pickup in line, when you dump all that extra power into it. All of my trucks have had stock engines... and in 2 wheel drive, I could light them up in 4 gears. There is NO weight in the rear of a Jap truck. I've had a couple Mazda trucks... B2200 and a B2600i 4X4, and I could spin the back tires 'till the cows come home. I can't imagine how you would get traction with another 50 or so HP! Even a locked diff, and traction bars won't help... you need weight over the back... or a better distribution.

On the subject of trucks, I saw this awesome drifting video, where this Skyline had a truck bed and was out-drifting cars, it was the craziest thing i've seen in a while.
