Hi folks. Wanting to remove the power steering pump on a 1998 Sentra, but am getting nowhere fast. The bolt that hinges the pump at the bottom and allows it to rotate for tightening on the belt cannot be removed - it hits the side of the engine compartment. Can't get to the upper mount bolt, so removing the mount from the block doesn't work either. I'm stuck. Has anyone lowered the right side of the engine down far enough to get the hinge bolt out? What to do? :gotme

OK I managed to get the pump off. Here's how I did it in case someone else is researching how to do this..

The bottom bolt that the pump pivots on must be removed. Once the bolt is removed, the pump will come off of the mount.
The bolt wont slide inward toward the center of the car - it can only be removed by sliding it outward.
The wall of the engine compartment gets in the way when doing this - the bolt wont slide out far enough.
The engine must be lowered about 2 inches - then the bolt will slide past the edge of the engine compartment, out into the wheel well.
Put a jack under the engine oil pan.
Disconnect the right engine mount and move it out of the way. This is easy to do - just 4 bolts all easy to get to.
Now let the jack down and the engined will drop the 2 inches needed to get the bolt out.
Once that bolt is out the pump can be removed from the mount.

What a PITA.. but it's doable.
