I am from Canada, so DTRL are mandatory here. Right now, on my car, the high beams are wired in series to achieve half of the power and make them not too strong lights, good DTRL.

My aim is to have either angel eyes or LEDs strip as DTRL and use only the high beams as high beams.

I was surprised to see that only two wires go to the lights meaning the wiring in series is made more upstream. Is it at the fuses box (there is a DTRL fuse) or somewhere else? I hope it is not done through the ECM.

Does anyone know how it works? Any diagram would help. What can I do to change my DTRL?

Any help would be appreciated.

Pescakl1,

Refer to the manual EXL section, pages 183,184

The DRL's are controlled through a relay located in the engine compartment next to the fuse panel behind the headlamp. The relay either connects one side of the RH high beam circuit to chassis ground (normal operation) or switches to 12VDC (DRL operation).

You can refer to EXL section, pages 180 for what the the non-DRL wiring looks like.

Here is how I would do this:

1) Remove both high beam bulbs. This is necessary to isolate the wiring for step 2 below.

2) Locate the ground lead in the plug for the RH high beam lamp. Using a multimeter, confirm that there is continuity to ground with the DRL's OFF and 12VDC when the DRL's are ON. If not, you have the wrong wire.

Note: The FSM indicates the wiring we are looking for is in the RH high beam, but it could be in the LH as well. BTW, left/right as when sitting in the vehicle.

3) Cut this wire about 4-6" from the lamp socket. Connect the lamp side of this wire to ground. The remaining cut wire is your 12VDC switched source for your angel eyes.

As always, thanks a lot Philip

I found on the internet that usually to get the high beams at half power, the manufacturer will feed current back through the ground wire to lower the voltage. i was wondering if it was the same for the Rogue. Thanks for this confirmation.

What I was missing, was the way to remove that and your information is clear as water.I even have the power source for my new DRL, did not have to put a wire from the fuse box. And it will be turned off when DRL should be off: Excellent.

Thanks so much for your help. I now know that it can be easily done, time to choose what to do with that.

If you don't have the DRL yet and will use the DEI system that others have used on the forum could you theoretically put this to any lighting option? Maybe running the DRL mod (to ADD DRL to the Rogue) to the fog lights? So the fog lights run as DRLs?

Yes, the DEI module can switch any of the lights... including the fog lights or even the parking lights. It all depends on how you wire it.
