Alright, let me start off by introducing myself as the owner of a 1992 240sx se, which I got off a friend of mine for an awesome price. He was going to buy another car because the #3 injector was bad and the car needed tires very badly, and it had failed inspection. He's not mechanically inclined and opted for a miata soft top from a couple generations ago [also a fun car]. He drove the car, even raced it running on only 3 cyl. for a pretty substantial amount of time, like months or longer.
Unfortunately for him, his miata is now having pretty serious engine problems. I, on the other hand, with help from a FSM, this site, my uncle's advice and tools, have managed to do what I would consider a fair amount of work on my car, which includes replacing all 4 injectors with remanufactured ones
The engine is running strong now, the drastic and worrying SHAKE is gone, the engine runs smoothly, my idle is back up to a normal level, and my power was drastically increased. In fact, I had never driven the car before I bought it, but having ridden in it many fun afternoons, I realized what driving was really supposed to be all about. Responsiveness, agility, and rear wheel drive are a wonderful combination. The 240 is my personal perfect car as it is so well balanced between fun and practicality. It has class, style, and heritage that is unmatched among japanese cars in the US, imo.
BUT ANYWAY, sorry to stray from the topic...
My question is this; what can I expect to have to replace as a result of the excess stress caused to certain parts of the car by the bad injector? Should I check the motor mounts? Any hoses specifically prone to stress on a shaking engine? I've found one cracked hose I will be replacing immediately that comes right off the head.
I started to notice the timing chain rattle at idle, but I think it's going away and could altogether disappear once a tune up is finished and things are running the way they should be.
I love my car. Buyin 400-500 dollars worth of parts this weekend. I'll shut up now.
