ok, this state is starting to get too ridiculous with all it's s***. all money making, resident employing, big businesses are being taxed out of here

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/loca ... 10911.html

now, these a$$ are proposing a new tax, on top of possibly reintroducing tolls (i was ok with the initial toll proposal years ago, of course that was amended), that would tax people on the amount of miles they drive.

f*** you, i already pay taxes just to own my vehicles. i'm not paying any additional money for the "privilege" of enjoying them, by using them for what they were designed for.

sooooo...who wants a short fat brown guy as a roommate? i'm relatively clean, mostly quiet, i can fix s***, i can cook, i...ummm...i'll just send my resume :bigthumb:

Is video taping monthly intercourse negotiable?

Really though, I can't see that passing. Too much commerce and too many private citizens won't vote that in.

They already tax you for miles driven when you pay insurance.

^Never heard of that. My insurance company has NO IDEA how many miles I drive. My fees never change either.

Tito - you can come stay with me. I need someone to help me put the rear truck cab you sent me onto the 240 :)

It must be something they only do here, because every time I renew my insurance, they ask me how many miles I drive on average.

I'm guessing his goat would have to consent. ;)

Nah, they do it up here too. it depends on your insurance company/policy. Some offer discounts for low annual mileage. fewer miles = less risk = lower premiums.

I can't wait to tell my Insurance agent we only drove 3,000 miles this year. I want to see the look on his face.

Oh yeah, they ask you how much you think you'll drive it when you're first insuring it. Nothing after that though.

Aren't you already paying a tax for each mile you drive in the form of gasoline tax? They're taxing you twice for the same mile. That's BS>

Yes and no. You're not if you drive an electric vehicle, which are becoming increasingly plentiful. And you're not if you buy your gas in a different state assuing you live close to a state border. If I'm not mistaken, the amount of annual miles that the average American drives has been declining, which means overall tax revenue has been shrinking (assuming tax rates go unchanged) but costs have continued to go up. The problem CT faces is no different than most other states. It's not as much a tax problem as it is a spending problem. For example, many governors/state legislators see all that money in their transportation trust funds or pension funds and "borrow" (steal) it to prop up their state budgets. Combine that with the same politicians (both sides of the aisle) won't cut spending. Very difficult to get re-elected if you're "the one" to suggest raising taxes, or shorting pension obligations to pay for it (the latter is what Chris Christie just did in NJ). Yet we keep re-electing the same idiots who we know mismanage the state money then expect them to change. Another thought is when states give enormous tax break deals to big corporations like GE whenever they threaten to leave (usually coincides when the previous deal expires), that also means less revenue. If you don't replace that revenue with something else or cut spending (or both), your state eventually ends up in deep doo-doo. Adding a gas tax or new toll kinda spreads the pain out, but it also hits the lower incomes who rely on their cars the most. though of the two, tolls on certain roads might be better as they're partly paid by out of staters. Theortetically, natives would know how to circumvent those tolls. Welcome to state politics.

^ all of that. the original proposal for tolls was to implement them at the state borders of both i-91, i-95, and i-84, in order to collect revenue from out of staters basically using ct highways as a thru-way. i was totally fine with that.
