I had a "What the hell?" moment today, so I thought I'd share my driving story with you all, and incite a bunch of stories from you guys.

I was coming back from a run up the road from my school to get pictures back from Wolf Camera for my newspaper class. Anyway, I'm coming back into the school, which is a 90 degree left turn from the highway to the back entrance. I slow a bit and downshift to second at about 35mph, being a dumbass for fun. I floor the gas after the downshift and turn the wheel, thinking I'll get some Gs going.... well... oddly enough, I get OVERSTEER (in case you don't know, I drive a Sentra). The rear end comes out a little and the front rotates, but the wheels stay forward. I'm thinking "Oh ****, guard rail!" but for some odd reason my instincts kick in and I magically know to keep on the gas (thank God for Gran Turismo, and countless other videogames, as I've never been in this situation in real life til then). The front wheels stay pretty planted, tires squealing like a bad hoe, and the car slowly falls back into place. Yeah, I hate my tires... but they made for a fun afternoon!

It was a hell of a lot of fun, so I thought I'd share!

You're driving stories?

My 3rd day of driving a standard and a rwd car it was raining. I go to turn onto my street. I downshifted to 2nd at about 20 mph. Like a dumbass, I accelerated around the turn! The rear end of the car kicks out, and out of nowhere I counter steer safely back onto the road! I had never encountered anything like that before... I was really shaken up, but I was ok.

My car constantly loses traction even when the road is damp... it sucks... I drive really slowly on wet roads nowadays...

My car spins the fronts like no other when it's wet, it sucks. Once again, I hate my tires.

Never, ever ever ever ever ever buy Firestone Firehawks, they came on my car when we got it, so I get the shaft.

just today, i raced my friend s14 with the s15 SR. Well, the road was a little bit wet, but I saw his car catching up. Without any hesitation, I redlined 1st gear, shifted hard to 2nd, thanks for my motor that came with the Nismo clutch, it grabbed right away and I started to drift into him. That was scary. I fishtailled a few times. It was just a 2 lane road and a curb. My friend floored it right away to get out of my way and I stayed calmed and regained control. It was scary when my car just had a new paintjob and a kit. I didn't want to hit anything. Feeeeewwwww

ummm....I was playing with a Buick GN the other night, I could get him from the start then when I made the shift to second he whistled by. (we were only going to the speed limit more or less which was 45 or so, and he has a race transmission with a higher stall. oh, and his car doesn't run too good compared to a stock GN thus I didn't get spanked as bad)

(I am not sure which Firestone Firehawk model you are talking about, so please take my response with the appropriate grain of salt.)

The Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP is designed for wet weather handling and is among the best (if not the best!) tires for this purpose! I would strongly recommend it for exactly the situation you describe. When I put these tires on my heavy Q45, it felt like the car was on rails in wet weather!

If you look at http://www.tirerack.com customer comments on this tire, you will note its wet weather performance is awesome!

I believe mine are the GTA2s. Whether they're supposed to have good traction or not, they don't. Dry they're alright, but they still slip whenever I'm driving even moderately hard. Everyone else who's reviewed them on Tire Rack has hated them for the most part too.

Just tonite I was practicing regaining control of my s13 after i had lost control of it. Didn't work out too good, I ended up putting it into an dirt embankment. The damage? A large gash into my front fender (fiberglass)... I just threw a few coats of spray paint over it and called it a Nite.

I was on a two-lane on-ramp, you know, the kind that is practically a full circle on an incline? Anyway, I'm in the right lane, behind a Ford F350, going pretty slow. At the bottom of the on-ramp, I decided to pass him on the left... What does he do? He speeds up so that when the two lanes merge I'm fuQt. In an attempt pass him before then, I downshift into second while flooring it. As you might expect, the rear end tails out. I ended up sliding across BOTH lanes on the freeway (both were empty, thank God...) and finally getting grip in the fast lane... which was fine, I was already going 75 mph by then. LESSON LEARNED: Time for LSD.

Or there was the time when my friend and I were driving around in his car. On the way back from a show, he's driving in the fast lane and someone starts tailgating him. So he slows down just as we begin to pass a semi on the freeway. After we sufficently piss the driver off, we change lanes and he flies by. When we got off the freeway, we noticed that he had gotten off too! So my friend starts tailgating him with his brights on. He guy pulls over and lets us pass. When we turned off the road to head to my apartment complex, he started following us. I told my friend not to go in, but to keep driving. The other guy follows us to a light and my friend ducks into a left turn lane. He pulls up next to us and four big guys open their doors and stand up, shouting at him. My buddy says, "Just act scared... that's what they want..." and I replied, "WTF man, YOU pissed them off... You want me to soil myself while I'm at it?" Luckily for us, they got bored and left. LESSON LEARNED: Don't let friends intentionally piss off other drivers. If another driver wants to teach them a lesson, you might be in the line of fire.

(thank God for Gran Turismo, and countless other videogames,...)

Isnt it fascinating how videogames can co-relate with the real world?

Videogames seem to have helped me develop my experiences extensively without killing myself. Golf carts too... go Peachtree City, land of a thousand golf carts!

I was in stop-and-go traffic on I-85N the other day, between the McCollum-Sharpsburg and Collinsworth Rd Exit. There was a bunch of traffic at 8:00 at night on a saturday, for some reason. The guy in front of me in a large buick felt it was his duty to enforce traffic laws by blocking the people driving on the shoulder. He'd wait until a car was coming, then swerve in front of it. I finally got tired of it, waited until he was playing blocker on the shoulder, and pulled up...blocking him out. He looked angry.

You're right about PTC...I hate having to pass golfcarts.

I put $70 Firestone Insignias on my Q45, and I'm very pleased with them.

No, they arent as smooth and quiet as the Yokos on the interstate nor do they handle corners as well, but in the rain and snow I got by pretty well. In the caravan back to the hotel in Lexington I caught myself doing 90mph in a horrid rainstorm (not safe, wasnt paying attention, busy pecking through XM stations) and was completely secure around some curves.

Overall, damn good bang for the buck and overall good in all weather. I dont intend to run over 100mph with them.

$70 Firestone Insignias, really? I wouldn't have guessed that. I figured you for a bit more smooothh. I have to get two new tires, Well actually one, but might as well get two for performance. I've currently got Michelin on my Q45 and I think they are great. Tire Track is offering Pirelli P4000 Super Touring at a special clearance price of $55 each. Ever had those?
