right now someone in my city is selling a set of 18's Akuza Road Concepts with Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 225/45R18 front and 245/45R18 rear. with 80% thread left

First off the tires are wider (and even wider in back two), and i know having wider tires in snow isnt good, but his price is REALLY tempting since hes selling the entire set he bought for 2grand at 1200obo

i dont know what the rims look like, but buying a set of thos tires would cost around 900-1100 already in my local stores (dont forget canada likes ripping people off)

any inputs to wide/staggered winter wheels?

why would wider tires be bad in the snow ? wouldnt you just have a larger contact patch for better traction ?

actually from what i heard is the wider the tire, the more slippery it is, winter tire or summer

but this leads back to my question is to confirm if this is true or not, and if staggered tires/rims have any more cons vs non-staggered set up?

Skinnier tires can knife through muck easier - more weight on a smaller contact patch. Wider tires offer better traction in dry conditions.

hmmm... the tires itself for sale if bought brand new cost around 220 a piece

and hes asking 1200 Obo for a set of rims plus tires used one winter... good condition NO curbage/rash

but then the tires are wider and staggered vs the stockers

Don't do it. I mean you are going to listen to a bunch of guys who don't seen the kind of winters you see in Calgary?

The stagged wheels might be fine in the dry but on snow and ice you should try to keep as closely to OEM setup as possible. You don't want the back end to slip out on ice or snow. And alloy rims are a waste in the winter they just get messed up by the sand and salt they use. Get a set of steels and aggressive winter tires if you expect to see much snow. LM22s are what they call "performance winter tires" and aren't as good in the white stuff or ice as their other models. You should also consider Nokian or Gislaved tires if blizzaks are too expensive. You guys are allowed studs right?

You shouldn't need to spend even 1200 on snow tires. I got a set of 16 steels and very good Gislaved Nordforst 5 tires for 700. Most people go down once size for cost and also to soften up for the inevitable winter time pot holes (for me replacing 225 45 R17s tires and rims from pot hole damage is just too dear).

I had the LM-22s stagged on a G35 coupe sport and they were awesome. Of course I live in Cincinnati Ohio. If anyone is interested in these, they are 17" Konig Incident Rims with Bridgestone Blizzacks LM-22 tires. Only used one winter and put 3000 miles on them. I am asking $900 for them.
