I just got mine last week! I'm so excited...it's so different from my other car, a '97 Ford Explorer. Since it has way more power, I've been driving it so hard. Besides avoiding it, is there any way to protect my engine from fast shifting?

Regards!

Enjoy!! They're great little cars!

as for the other question... I can't really answer that for you... I have a CVT. (and I push it, it's so much fun!!)

What do you mean by fast shifting? Protecting the car against high RPMs from revving, or protecting against changing between gears in a short span of time?

If it's the former, first and foremost... Avoid it! Nothing can protect your engine against conditions it wasn't designed to do on a regular basis. The next best protection is synthetic oil, but it is by no means a substitute for careful driving.

If you mean changing gears quickly... Nothing. Your engine is not going to take the abuse. Your flywheel, your clutch, and your transmission will. You cannot use synthetic transmission fluid in a Versa, and NOTHING but proper driving will protect your clutch and flywheel.

Changing gears in a short period of time I think...On nice straight-aways I like to push up to 5-6 RPMs as fast as I can before shifting. Gives a real nice feeling...but I can handle backing off of that to keep my car tip top.
