Just a quick question.................Are you able to program Q so that the high beams are use as driving lights. The reason I ask......I read it in a serivce book.....by using the emerg. brake pad.

Is this TRUE! does anyone know, and if so, how do you do it? 95' Q:icesangel

Why in the world would you want to go around blinding other drivers? Canadian cars have had daytme running lights for years now and they do use the brights. However, there is an installed module that drastically reduces the wattage running through the hi beams and keeps dashbaord illumination, etc. at normal daytime levels. I looked into it for my J30t months ago and it ran ~C$600.

People think that somehow daylight reduces the light output of headlights. Absolutely untrue. DRL's are a great idea, IMHO, but if you want to make your vehicle more visible and you don't have the DRL package, simply use your low beams. As at night, the low beams are pointed away from other drivers eyes while the high beams are pointed directly into them. Same holds true during the day.

I left ouy some info. the high beams are at reduced power so they would be blinding peolpe.

Well, how much is the power being reduced? In addition to what VimyJ said, your high beam reflectors/lenses are not designed like your low beam reflectors/lenses. High beam reflectors reflect the light higher in a wider pattern, whereas low beams are aimed lower with a pattern that has more vertical clip on the left side of the beam pattern (so it wont blind oncomming drivers on the left side of the road). So even though your light may be dimmer, they are still being directed into other driver's eyes because of the high beam reflectors design.

The DRL in Canada use the high beams but the output is much reduced. The module keeps the tail lights off, radio display at daytime levels and instrument lights off. You can probably order one from a Canadian dealership.
