Hey Guys,

I'm looking at this s13 on Friday that I might actually buy, and I'm wondering about how I'm supposed to get the car home after I buy it? I know the car should be insured with my company, but if I just call them up, I wont have any proof, right? Also what about registration? I dont want to shell out money for temp tags or anything in case I dont buy the thing.... besides, the car is in NYC and I live in CT-- wont CT temp tags be invalid outside the state anyways?

I heard from a friend that you can drive the car back home if you have insurance (just by calling and adding it to my policy), and with the previous owners tags, as long as you have a bill of sale and the title, etc...

what do you guys know about this? what should I do?

I think your friend is right, but I'm not sure. You should be able to drive it back after purchase without any hassle.

I hope things go well for you! I just found the perfect car on Friday, but I was gone all weekend and it was sold when I called this afternoon :( Maybe my bad luck will mean that somewhere you must find and get the perfect car :D

**** i drove my 240 for 3 weeks before registering it, and then i drove another 2 months without putting the lisence plate on hehe. (you dont get parking tickets if you dont have a plate) :D I did have insurance the day after i drove it home though. Sometimes your insurance will cover you driving other cars so you might be covered that way.

when my bro bought his truck, he just brought his front plate from his other ride and put it on the back, and drove it home, with the occasional 3rd gear burnout...and got it insured/reg'd when it was home, in his possesion

get u'r friend to drive u there...then drive behind or in front of u'r friend with both car hazard lights on.

i actually went up to a cop and ask if that's legal or not and he said no. DOH!

but i guess only a fag cop will bother you if u do that.

if you have tags already and are going to transfer to that car- I think there is a 5 day grace period. as for ins. have you rins.co. fax a temp card with the vin#

no pics... so yea I'm hoping the things looks nice too... the ad says "looks beautiful" though, so here's hoping she's (yes, SHE's) not lying.

Its a 91 SE hatch for $1250 with 135,000 on it and the following things wrong:-hole in the exhaust (whatever, gettin a N1 dual anyways)-hole in the radiator (eh, a $100 fix)-"ticking" noise (I'm assuming this is the timing set... I figure its worth dealing with if I can get her down to $1000 or less..)

I've also got my eye on this other wrecked 91 SE that has only 50,000 on the car/engine... the guy only wants $500 for it, so I might just pick up both and use the $500 car for the engine and parts...then break it apart and sell what I can...

Yeah I figured I'd just keep the paperwork with me and see if shed let me use her plates... Its a 2 hour drive back home, but you're right- if I dont get excited about my new car and do something stupid, I should be pretty much fine. Hahahaha donno bout those "fag cops" though hahahahahahah never know what they're gonna do next!

U can call your insurence company,And the proof issue isnt a big deal, any judge would drop it.

As for the registration every state has a grace period.

well u can just drive it back and if you get pulled over, most of the times unless the cop that pulls u over is an ***, if you explain that you just bought it and ur driving it back they will understand that and let you go... happened to couple of people I know that lives in NY and bought the car in NJ... but thats not the correct way to do it so.....

As long you already have insurance, you drive the car for 2 weeks under most state laws and still be coverd by your insurance. After that, you are SOL. If you are just going to drive it home, grad your insurance car so you have prook and carry the bill of sale paper work with you and you will be ok.

When i bought my car, the dealer made sure we had insurance before we could drive it off the lot. We were issued temporary registration aswell as 30-day tags. I only stalled once on the way home...not bad for the first time driving stick farther than a block..hehe. Ne ways it was cool...

hmm, I am insured as an occasional driver on my parents insurance right now since i dont have a car at school. If I were to buy a car, could I just call my parents and ask them to add it right then to the insurance, or would I have to notify them beforehand and get a copy of the insurance card mailed down here to me to have in my possesion?
