I am new to Skylines, only seen a couple in Canada and one in the US etc and have always loved them. Now as much as id love to own a motorex legal skyline, I cant. I have come across one Skyline, which was confiscated by the govt and sold for parts. The parts dealer has no paperwork from the govt either but will provide a sale letter.

Now, Ive spoken to a couple of "importers" based in Florida who claim to get it registered and titled. Now I know all about, AND the differences between a "EPA & Federal & State legal vehicle with a new 17 digit US vin #" and "a State registered non federal vehicle with a less than 17 digit vin #". Ive read extensively on this site about these vehicles and there really is no way in hell this car will ever be EPA legal. so my question is....

1. If I register and title the car in Florida and drive it, what exactly happens in case I get pulled over... Does the car get crushed with me in it ?

2. Can the title be transferred to another state even though the VIN # is less than 17 digits ?

3. Is it a crime ?

4. What legal action might I come up against in case the car is inspected or im pulled over ?

5. Is this whole process entirely illegal from all angles or is this a loophole ?

Once again, I know its not the right thing to do, but hell, if its passable ..... Im sure a lot of people have the same questions and might prove helpful.... I know theres a lot of Skylines out there like this, so id like to hear comments from the owners of these "florida" cars.

1. It's illegal2. You can get away with it for as long as you stay lucky3. If this "dealer" you buy the car from is ever busted and their sales records are seized, your call will prolly be toast.4. You could also be implicated in this.5. Post pics when you get it done.

This is backwards. Read:zerothread/159216http://forums.nicoclub ... ead/281541

After reading all information and visiting DOT's NHTSA's web site and reading there, all your questions should be answered and if not call NHTSA so you receive information from the source.

I will highly recommend that you DO NOT buy a grey market car. If you dont mind waiting 2 years, it's a pretty good deal. I just got my 1995 GTS25T delivered after waiting over 2 years. Just to clear things up, it is NOT illegal to have a grey market skyline in the US as long as the engine and shell are shipped in separate containers into the US. There is not "if you get caught" crap about it. I did it, had it registered in Florida, title change to Washington State and about to change to California. If you want more info, take a look at the dot.gov website. It will explain everything for you. If you need any advice or pointers, let me know, I have already done this, so I know first hand exactly what you need to do, and do it legally

I've read through all of the DOT and NHSA crap at least 3 times and It seem like your plan on buying it canada and driving it here seems like your most viable option. And if you wait like 2 years you'll be able to get an R33 cuz then it'll be 15 years old

i got one too and its legal, now you must know something you have to make sure the car passes smog test since thats the prob with this cars.. the nhsta say that if you ship the a shell and engine separate to avoid the smog test then ur in troub. but if you put a US cat on the car it will pass since my friend did it and the car passes with flying colors? hey doc are you the one i help you get his car from washington.. send me a pm if you are you /???
