Hey guys,Im planning on doing almost and entire drivetrain upgrade this weekend. Im planning on putting a J30 LSD, S14 lower mileage trans, Spec stage 3 clutch, and Spec aluminum flywheel into my 92 coupe.

Now, my question is, what should I replace while I have all that stuff out as far as bearings and seals?

Im planning to change the fluids in the diff (80W-90) and the transmission(full synthetic), and the clutch kit I bought came with a new release bearing.Anything else that I should pick up before I start tearing this stuff apart? I appreciate your help!

Also, does anyone know if the stock J30 diff mounting bolts will work on the s13 as well? I was told to buy m12 X 1.25 x 85mm bolts, but thats exactly what the stock J30 bolts look like. Again, any help is appreciated.

Please guys help me out. I need to know if I need new parts because more than likely I will have to order them, and I want them in before I start.

search the j30, not familiar enough with the details on that one to give you accurate info.

transmission fluid, make sure it's gl-4 not gl-5. I'm using a 75w-90 by Motul. Kinda hard and pricey to find Motul, but Redline mt90 should be readily availab.e

while you've got the flywheel off, change the rear main seal. You'll thank yourself for it later on. Change the pilot bushing as well and the throw out bearing. My ACT kit came with them, but it's a very good idea to change those while you're down there.

It helps to have a large piece of cardboard with holes punched into em for when you start to pull the bolts off the transmission. I haven't put one in the wrong spot yet with that simple trick.

If I change the rear main seal, I should have all the oil drained out of the car, right?

Wont it be fine if I just use full synthetic manual tranmission lube for the trans? They have this Royal Purple **** that is supposed to be pretty good. I dont have any idea what weight it is though.

The carboard trick, are you talking about punching the bolts through the piece of cardboard where they would be placed on the transmission? I think I know what you mean but kinda hard to describe with words. Essentially youre saying make sure I put the bolts back in the exact holes they came out of, correct?

When you pull the transmission from under the car, raise the rear and get at the rear crank seal. That should keep the oil from spilling to a minimum.

Full synthetic don't mean jack. It could still be GL-5 and eat your transmission from the inside out. Make sure you get GL-4. Royal Purple is pretty good, but not compared to Redline (a true synthetic) or Motul (expensive but you can feel the difference even over Redline).

Yeah sorry about the vagueness of the tip. Yeah punch holes into the cardboard like it were going to be sandwiched between your motor and transmission. When each bolt comes out, put the bolt in the cardboard so you don't forget which bolt goes where. It helps me along the way since I always forget which bolt goes where and I end up looking for the bolt and wasting time.

Whats the difference between GL-4 and GL-5? It seems like I can only find GL-5 or all 3 (gl-3, 4 and 5) I have no idea what the difference is. And do you know what weight the transmission fliud should be, and how much to use? I was told 2 quarts to be safe. And the J30 Diff takes 3 pints of 80W-90, correct? Is there any specific diff fluid I should use to help out the LSD, or something that is best for LSD?

Well, I looked most of that stuff up already, as I should have. Its hard for me though cuz I cant browse to alot of pages at work because they have them blocked (including nico).

The only thing Im really looking for now is, Torque specs for the diff cover of the J30 differential. Im guessing the torque specs for the s13 diff would be the same, and I cant find the specs on either. Im guessing no one puts it in the manuals because there is a drain and a fill plug on the diffs so they probably think you would never need to take the cover off. Also, does anyone know what size the bolts need to be for the diff cover? Thats it I think, Ill post more if I can think of anything else.

Ok, I got the bolts, so thats not a problem. If anyone needs to know later on what type of bolts go on a J30 diff cover, Im pretty sure they are M10-1.25X30mm if Im not mistaken. They arent threaded all the way to the top to make room for a washer and a lock washer, JUST IN CASE someone needs to know that later on.

STILL need to know the torque specs for the bolts on the J30 diff cover if anyone has those it would be a GREAT help.

Look harder for the GL-4. Not too hard to find. GL-5, you're asking for trouble in your transmission.

Torque spec on the j30 diff, use the same as the one for the 240sx.
