rear end will last 1,000,000 if you just keep gear oil in it and water out. carrier bearing is not a common failure but mine got wet and took a dump. by the way the auto carrier bearing will fit on a manual driveshaft:) . trans is not a bad trans but not extremely tough either. thats ok because even a hewland racing gearbox will wear out in a day of driving if you dont shift right. protecting your trans is all about good fluid(i reccomend redline mt-90, never use mobil 1 gear oil in m/t), and shifting like a reasonable person. i would look into the clutch though. the stock clutch may not last too long with a turbo.

Thanks, that's the info I was looking for. I have a 5sp out of a 91 I would have to change the bellhousing to be able to have the crank sensor for my 95 ecu, so my question is how hard would it be to rebuild the trans with bearings and small parts any parts source and help would be great.

What's wrong with Mobil 1 gear oil in a MT?

not dificult to rebuild. you will need many specialized tools though.

mobil one gear oil is a gl-5 meaning it has sulphur compounds for extreme pressure. thats great except it eats up brass sychros. if you check your owners manual/fsm it says to use a gl-4 which does not have any sulphur. i use redline mt-90.
