Hey guys i want to dyno my car on ipod touch but to test hp you need drivetrain loss. Does anyone know what the drivetrain loss is for a 08 Altima Coupe 2.5?

In the past they have said 15 percent is a good starting figure.

27 hp drivetrain loss in the 6 speed? Meh, I think it might be 20 max. CVT is prob 10% loss.

Where do you get this information? You got a secret reference book? Or are you some kind of mechanical savant?

There's a lot more parts on the car that make you loose power than transmission, exhaust water pump heater etc. i would be surprised if it made anywhere near 243 at the wheels.

drivetrain loss is getting that power from the engine down to the wheels right? not talking about the engine with open headers and open intake. the engine with everything the way it is in the car is 270 HP and if it loses 10% getting that power from the engine to the wheels, that would make it 243 WHP.

who loses hp from having a heater....

and if you talking about the belt driven accessories, that's already factored in

Yes, but you can't just -10% and that's what is hitting the wheels, because like i mentioned earlier several other parts sap power to reduce power from hitting the wheels as well. What you're saying is that the only lose in power is coming from the transmission so it's like saying the car is just hooked up to a transmission and a naked engine with nothing restricting it, plus a car.

Example. if you had a stock Altima lets say it has 243 at the wheels, and i switched the exhaust to a more restrictive one , it might make 230 at the wheels not, but i didn't touch the transmission.

You're going way to far into it buddy. We're talking strictly drive train loss from the transmission. That's it.

ya but wouldn't that lower the crank hp too? i've never heard anyone say all this when it comes to converting it from crank hp to wheel HP. say you buy your car from the dealership and drive it to a dyno shop and get on the dyno, you have 270 crank hp and the dyno measures WHP, you will get a 10% loss of your crank HP (10% loss from 270 hp). everyone always says 10% to 15% is lost going to the wheels. i was surprised the 6 speed only lost 9% and the CVT still falls into the average with 10% loss but in the lower end of the average

Drivetrain loss is different for most cars. For the FWD 6 speed a/c, the torque only has a short/less restricted distance to travel. For the CVT, im willing to bet the drive train loss it around 15%. For the 6 speed, 9% sounds in the right ball park.
