I saw that in "pimp my ride" as stated on the link....the idea's been around for a long while...(nothing like watching divx in you car)....I'd go with via's miniboards instead...

However, one of the major factors is hard drive vibrations, most ppl think of using flash cards or other roms as their OS drive 'cuz hdd's are very sensitive units while moving...(however, i bet there's a way around it).

There are several JDM head units that have had hard disk drives in them for a while now to record from the radio or play massive quantities of music. I almost bought one but the FM had to be converted, their roads can't be any less bumpy than ours.

I came across some on Ebay, this dude would go to Japan and bring them back. Check Ebay often - Search for JDM head units under car electronics. I saw a sony and another brand, can't remember. This is one of sony's :sony HD headunit It is not the same one I saw on Ebay, the one I wanted was a double DIN, perfect for my Q.Here is some more information on sony's headunit I keep looking to see if I can find the double DIN unit

I have noticed that you guys have said a few nice things about Drivesoft Car Computing Solution. We just wanted to say thanks.

Just so everyone knows, these cars are completed in 10 days or less which is a bit of a challenge considering the junk they choose. The Scion was actually done in 7 days which is pretty good I might add. I was there and we did not sleep a few nights. As for the screw up that you may have seen on TV with the dash etc. Those things were fixed before the kid got the Scion back.

Info about Drivesoft:It was a 10.4 molded in the dash. The PC is a small box under the seat. It was touch screen, FM/TV-MP3-DVD-CD-GPS-XM-VCD-PiC Viewer- Car-Cam-Email-Internet-Media Organizer-Vehicle Status and more capable incar computer. We normally use 7" and 8" LCD touch screen but WCC wanted to put the usually touch on it as they do with all the high end cars they build 10"In The Dash Install.

PS: we are not trying to promote our product here on your forum but we thought since you guys were talking about it we would just give you some info.

Again thanks for you good remarks about Drivesoft and we even appreciate the bad marks.

Thanks,

Do you think sirrus or sony can throw wireless internet through their satellites....what a combo package that would be!! The whole head unit industry would be turned upside down chasing each others tails....could already be out there. Can you hook up bluetooth or another WiFi through satellites? It would seem possible to attain an internet connection in a car just as the satellite radio does. Or has all of this already been accomplished. ie. GPS, Navigation...would these be considered just a standard wireless connection or possibly can we get more out of them?
