My driveshaft is too long. It works but it whines. The whine has gotten better because the driveshaft is wearing down, but how can this be? The transmission is out of an s14, the driveshaft is out of a '95 base model 240. The only thing I can think of is because of my rear end. But, how could that make a difference? The auto and manual uses the same diff. I thought. I am just wondering what you thought about this. And also, if I got a j30 LSD, think that would help it, since the shaft is too long? Would somehow the LSD compensate? Thats what a friend told me...

Are you sure its too long, or could it be something else causing the whining?

u got the driveshaft out of a base model, is yours a base model?

if your car has ABS it will have a sensor on the front of the differential, making it 1" longer. im guessing you have an SE model? if not somethings a miss... the driveshaft should be able to soak up alittle length.... it normally has some play to it.

The a/t and man. aren't the same. The frt. half of the a/t is almost 1 in. longer than the man. Because of the center carrier bearing this added length puts pressure on the center carrier and adds 1 in. to the total length of the shaft.

Ok, so what are you saying? I'm not using an auto shaft or anything...

I guess what I'm saying is that you need to take some measurements and see where you are at and compare them to another vehicle and see where the differances are. Measure from the rear of the trans to the flange on the diff. and get a total length needed and then check the shaft to see what you've got. This would be a good starting place. Check and make sure of the models you got the parts from.
