I'm asking this for a friend who is swapping at the moment. Someone told him he needed a new driveshaft for his sr swap. I didnt think this was true. Is it? he has a 91 240 that had an automatic. we are doing the 5spd swap of course.

It's true. The manual front driveshaft is shorter than the auto. The rear is exactly the same. However, get both front and rear since they are balanced as a unit.
