i got this problem after a small drifting around a near parking loti just drove around for about half an hour to let it cool and settle when i feel shaking in the steering wheel and shift knob and then there was all this noise coming from right under the arm rest thing and then it got to the point where i thought it was an earthquake and all this noise of metal hitting metal. i stopped and couldnt move any more. when i got home after being towed 3/4 bolts were gone that connects the driveshafts together. i tightened them and torqued them down but it happens again (the shaking, just not as much) and i found out it was this thing in the middle that holds the driveshaft up..some sort of rubbery thing and one of the bolts on that was kinda loosei tried tightening it down but the thread was so bent it couldnt go all the way in.now my car makes this metal hitting metal knocking noise everytime when i drive off from first

could that small rubbery thing be making that metal noise and do i really need it?

That piece is the carrier bearing, and yea... It's needed (it holds up the center of the drive shaft).

If your drive shaft nuts keep working themselves out, I would recomend putting some loctite on them.

If some major damage has already been done (which it sounds like), then maybe it's time for a nice one piece shaft. Personally I HATE these two piece shafts that are used on our cars, just one big headache.

my guess is that you didn't tighten your **** down to spec when you put it in and your driveshaft bolts fell off.. that allowed the driftshaft to get off center where it bolts to the diff, which was the shaking you noticed. you kept on it and that probably ****ed up your center carrier bearing... I wouldn't be surprised if that kind of vibration shook some of the weights used to balance the shaft loose.you messed up big time stripping out the threads on the center thing, now you'll have to drill those out and hellacoil them if you can't get them straightened out with a tap.first step is to fix your center carrier, then see if the problem goes away

As they mentioned, you hanging bearing is finished. My suggestion, get yourself a one piece drive shaft which will be cheaper than the oem nissan piece. If you screwed up the threads of the bolts that hold the hanging bearing to the chassis of the car, then replace them with bolts and nuts and it should fix your problem, I have replaced the dam hanging bearing on both of the Z32 that I had/have and I bought both from Power Train industries 1-714-901-3611, they gave me crazy deal on these ones. 190USD per drive shaft for a Z32 so it should be the same price for the 240sx.

Obviously if you go with a one piece drive shaft, you no longer need to have the screws for the hanging bearingGood luck,

well it's not the center bearing thats actually bent but where the bearings go onto the car itself..so i guess one-piece is my only way

okay i called em today and they said that they only have two piece driveshafts cuz of vibration or something so does anyone know anywhere where i could find one?...or should i just go z32 vlsd and buy the single driveshaft...btw the two-piece for the 240sx was over $400.00
