I'm hoping I can find some help here. I have a 1989 Nissan Hardbody short bed with a regular cab. I have a single piece driveshaft with staked in u-joints that gave up on me and now I'm looking for a replacement. All the replacements I've found online say 2WD/4WD. Problem is that when I contacted my local salvage yards they told me they didn't have driveshafts from 2WD or 4WD but that the 4WD wouldn't fit a 2WD anyway. I don't want to order the driveshaft online only to find it won't work after it arrives. Will the short bed 4WD work on my 2WD and if not does anybody have any idea where I could find a replacement? Thanks!

Why not have a shop like Fleetpride replace your joints?

Unfortunately one of the caps on the joint broke apart and allowed the yokes to flail around and bang into each other... tore a pretty good chunk out of both the yokes.

I saw your post over at NC and I think you should build a whole new driveline with tougher components than what nissan uses. I think its possible your driveline isn't properly setup and thats why it failed(just a guess). A 4wd will not work at all since they use an entirely different rear end than the 2wd's. I would shop around for a good local driveline shop. peace.

A 4wd shaft would be considerably shorter because there's a transfer case between the transmission and the rear end, so you'll need a 2wd shaft.

If you go to a local driveline shop and tell them what you have, they could probably make you something that will work.

The slip yokes are probably the same between 2wd and 4wd, but I'm not sure on the pinion end. On the later D22 trucks, I know the bolt pattern on the pinion flange is wider on the C200 and H233B rear axle equipped 4x4s than it is on the H190 equipped 2wds.

It seems like it's going to be near impossible to dig up a stock driveshaft to replace mine. It's probably not a good idea to purchase what I've found online since everyone I've asked is pretty sure the 2WD shaft is considerably shorter. It looks like I may have to have something fabricated. I'm checking with a local shop tomorrow to see what they can do. Thanks everyone!

The 2wd shaft is longer, not shorter
