drivers side door lock

My '99 q45 has developed a mind of its own, somtimes it won't let me out! I have to open the window and use the outside door handle to open the door! I have tryed cycling the auto door loor lock to no avail. There seems to be no pattern as to when it does this. It will work fine for 5 or 6 times and the NOTHING, stuck inside...open window.....ANY ideas?????

Driver's side door lock problems are very common on old Infiniti J30s. There are many threads on the subject on the J30 board. My J30T also has door locks with a mind of their own. Some attribute the problem to the door lock timer. In my case I think pulling the door panel off and lubing everything would fix most of the problems but I am too lazy to do it as long as I can open and lock the car with the key.

My 94 locks itself all by itself. Sometimes it locks the passenger doors and not the drivers door. I think its getting alzheimers.

honestly it sounds more like the regulator inside the door is broken, making it so the control rod wont activate the latch.

I suggest you take that door panel off and see whats going on before you cant open the door... Last time i checked, its tough to take a door panel off when the door is closed...

forgot to add that I have remove the door panel and watched as rod from the inside door handle worked to the latch assm. No binds or hang ups!

I would double check all the clips and stuff.. If it were me I'd drive with the door panel off for a week if you can... How often does it happen?

Once you open the door with the outside handle does the inside handle start working again?
