I think my driver's side power window is about to die. The window goes down quickly using both AUTO and manual, but when I raise the window, it is very, very slow for the first 3/4 of the distance, and then for the last quarter it moves at normal speed.

Is this a motor problem, a track problem, or something else? How do I determine where the fault lies (short of taking the door apart?)

Would silicone applied to the window track help?

Thanks for any help.

I bet it is the regulator and not the motor. I have my original 1984 300ZX motors, they seem to last forever. However, I have had to replace regulators on several cars over the years.

Either way they door has to come off. For me as nice as my fit still is on my 97' I have a good professional shop do it, has to be the reg or the motor but I bet it is the regulator.

Well, window is fixed. Nothing wrong with motor or regulator. The track was full of crap. Cleaned all four windows tracks, and they work like new.
