Hello everyone,

After I started driving yesterday, I did what I normally do, I rolled down my window (driver side front) and heard a slight clunk after it got all the way down (I just let it go down by itself using the auto down). Then I noticed that I couldn't get it back up.

I can hear the motor running and it still seems like it is working normally (for example, if I hit the down or up button again, I can hear the motor running, but the window is not moving up).

Any idea on what could be wrong?

Thanks.

Sounds like a broken window regulator. It's the mechanism that moves the window up and down in the door. When they break, the motor will still run but the window won't move. Can you pull the window back up by hand?

Thanks for the replies.

It is a 1993 J30.

Yes, I can pull the window back up by hand.

It might be worth taking the door panel off and checking it before you buy any parts. If you don't see any broken parts dangling in there, it could just be off track. When I had this problem with my Legend, the arm on the regulator had actually cracked and separated & I had to replace it.

I took my panel off and everything is in tact. How I hear it, it appears that the there is not enough ' energy' if you will, to push the window back up.

Since the motor sill runs, I think it does sound like the regulator. http://www.fuzzycats.com has a how-to for a similar situation.

I just now have to find a good deal on a regulator because I don't want to buy an expensive OEM regulator.

check your local junkyard, of if u have a u pull and pay near ya, or something like that, that would be your best bet... ive changed out 2 of my four window regulator/motors on my car, and now for number 3.... lol. ill pull it out b4 i buy a new part and see if there anything physically wrong with it.

I thought about that, but since my car is a 1993 and other J's are just as old, I thought about the fact that what if the junked J30's window regulator is on its way out too.

For me, getting to a junk yard is a hassle with time constraints from both my jobs and school full-time.

I have considered it though, because I am working on a 16 year old car and it would make sense to spend as little as possible to repair a non-essential part. Since I have options, I will just wait and see.

Thanks for your input though.
