My driver side front window is stuck all the way up. I am trying to replace the motor. I followed fuzzycats instructions to remove the panel. With the panel off I cannot move the window down manually at all even with alot of force, any more force & I am afraid of breaking the regulator. I need to get the window down so I have access to removing the bolts attaching the window to the regulator so I can remove the regulator & motor unit.

Anyone have any ideas?

you can remove just the motor its self and then the window will be free to move up and down. just need to make sure you have someone or something holding the window so when you remove the motor it doesnt fall and break.

Thanks for the reply.

Have you ever replaced just the motor without removing the regulator? It does not look like it is possible to remove the motor only:

From Fuzzycats instructions:

To remove the motor and regulator (they come out of the door as one unit)...
Once you have the window regulator and motor out of the door, remove the power window motor and attach it to the new regulator. To remove the motor, remove the three screws you see in figure 3 (green circles).

if i remember when i replaced my driver window motor a few months back when the rubber gear inside broke causing the window to move freely, i think i just removed the motor its self with a small ratchet and socket. i went by fuzzycats also but i didnt want to take the whole thing out so i just reached up and found the bolts that held the motor and did it that way (i think, im not sure). cause i remember when i was trying to figure out if it was my regulator or motor i reached up and the cover plate for the gear just fell to the bottom of the door when i touched it so see if you can try just removing the motor, but if not then unbolt the whole unit and then unbolt the glass to get the unit out so you can get the motor off, it might be a little difficult to take out since your window wont go down at all. does your motor still make noise like its trying to work or no?

Yes. I hear the motor "click" once like it is trying to move, both up & down but there is no movement, no grinding sounds, no constant motor running sound when the switch is engaged both for up & down. I wonder if it is just that the regulator has bound up/frozen/needs lube?

About a month ago, the window was getting stuck halfway down & I would need to pull the window up while the switch was in the up position to get it close all the way. Now nothing.

oh try hitting the down button and pushing down on the motor and see if it goes down and then if it does then theres probably something jamming it and needs to be cleaned, best way to clean it up would be to take the regulator and motor out of the door and spray either wd40 on it or pb-blaster on it and it should clean it up pretty good. if not then take the motor off and see if it operates easily and if it does then your regulator might be bad and be replaced. so try that and if the window doesnt go down at all with what i said above then take a small ratchet or wrench and unbolt the window from the regulator and remove the assembly from the door and see if it operates with the same procedure above. im thinking it might be just the regulator needing to be cleaned but it could be the motor too but only way to be sure is to test it out and see. i really hope this helps lol

With the door panel off, remove the 4 bolts holding holding the vertical sliding mechanism to the door and the entire assembly will drop bringing the window down a couple of inches so you can remove the 2 bolts holding it to the regulator. Page BT-9 of the FSM has a good diagram showing the location of the bolts.

Thank you for the reply.

Even with the window down a couple of inches there is still no opening in the door sheet metal to access the bolts holding the window to the regulator.

Look at figure 2:

Yes sir. I see the bolts that must be removed from the fuzzycats website.

Fuzzycats says:

"Before you get started removing the regulator, you’ll need to roll/push the window almost all the way down. This is so you can remove the two bolts that attach the glass window to the regulator."

Have you ever removed the regulator & motor from a J30?

I've never removed a regulator from a J30 but I have parted out 3 Q45's and removed a total of 12 regulators from the doors. Compare the door diagram in the FSM to the same one in the Q45 FSM and they're almost identical. I've removed regulators with the window up and although not easy it can be done. I've also removed the 4 bolts in the sliding bar and had the whole regulator assembly drop down so I could get to the 2 window bolts which are the same size as the regulator bolts, either 10mm or 12mm.

I looked at the Fuzzycats pic and see at least two large openings where your hands will fit. If you remove the speaker box you can probably put your whole head in to see what you're doing. You can stare at it, give up, and say it can't be done..... or remove the 4 bolts I mentioned to drop the regulator assembly down a few inches to a wider part of the door to make it more accessible. Good luck.

i dont remember what size it is but import cars use mostly 8, 10, 12, or 15 mm for most things and most likely for the window regulator and stuff its probably a 10mm. if you cant get the window to go down try to unbolt just the motor half of the regulator and turn it so you can unbolt or unscrew the motor from the assembly since in the pictures from fuzzycats shows theres philps head screws holding on.

they are 12mm bolts and you can unbolt the glass while it is all the way up. ive had to do it before. its a bit of a pain but its doable. best to use a ratcheting 12mm wrench.
