Hi again. Another in the never ending saga of Q70 parts failures. After finally getting my AV Control unit working perfectly, I noticed my driver side AC blend actuator is not working right. Driver side vents are approximate 5-8 degrees warmer than passenger side using AC (only thing we use here on Maui). Hot and cold both work. Passenger vent 55, driver 63. Questions: 1. Does dashboard have to be removed to replace it? 2. Any other option or alternative idea? Thanks much.

Just tested it again. Once it cools down completely set to 60, the driver vent is 68 degrees, passenger 57. So significant difference. When set to 90 both vents get hot. No clicking sound like a previous actuator issue. I’m assuming it may be stuck partially closed. Maybe not. Appreciate any help. Was wondering if there was any chance unplugging battery or trying something if there is very easy access. Thanks.

That has to be a problem with the driver's mix servo or the mix door itself. When you set the system to 60 it's basically an override, you're telling it, "Don't look at the sensors, just make it as cold as possible." Normally you'd diagnose it by removing the servo and moving the mix door manually to see if the problem is inside the HVAC Unit. If it isn't, then the servo is faulty. In this case the problem is that the FSM says the Q70 servos can't be removed without pulling the HVAC Unit.

Hi VStar. Thanks much for the super quick response. Ok, so sounds like it’s much more complicated than I was hoping. On hot days that 68 doesn’t cut it on the driver side if car’s been outside. If I start in the garage usually not a problem. After my 3 radio fiasco and things crazy on Maui lately, probably hold off for now. Too bad your shop isn’t close. Have you been using any of your Ariya electric training yet? Thanks again.

You're most welcome. Yep, and what a fiasco. Weeks to get a silly 12V battery (it's so "special"), and you wouldn't believe all the goofy codes the car threw about it.

Ouch. Painful. Need a place to store them while waiting for part.

Do you think there is any way the driver side Vent being 8-10 degrees warmer than passenger is related to recent new AV module replacement. The problem occurred around that time, but I can’t say that day. I know I noticed it driving home from the shop. Every possible other function works perfectly w new module. Steering controls, all the AC buttons etc. Was just wondering if something could have been bumped or somehow electronically affect the AC SERVO. Seems unlikely. Unfortunately my mechanic (super skilled and great guy) just expanded his shop, hired extra personnel, but lost everything in the Lahaina fire. And the insurance company is trying to screw him over as an “act of god” event. Crazy world.

Could be, but it's more likely mechanical than electrical, if they somehow got a vent cockeyed or disconnected.

K thanks again. I just played w it for an hour. Trying heat, every AC setting. The only thing that gets cools air from driver vents is on recirculation once car is cooling. But still 7-8 warmer. The minute I change to fresh air mode driver side becomes air temperature, while passenger stays cool. Heat functions properly out of it. Wish I could pop that servo door open and leave it there and just use fan settings for comfort. Thanks again VStar. Hope you enjoy Labor Day. U deserve it.
