The button to move the driver seat front and back quit working. I can still tilt the back, lift the seat and tilt the seat, but no front and back.
Is it true that to repair any of the seat control an entire new seat frame must be purchased at $800? (plus installation)? :ohno:

Sounds like yours may either be a motor replacement or a gear. Wouldn't think that would be too bad.

word from Infiniti dealer: 2006 G35 does not have a motor or gear replacement - have to buy the whole "lifter" or "seat frame".

Thank you for your input. I found a clue at (another website) - they directed me to a website where I can buy the gear for $63, and also they have instruction on how to replace the gear. So now I'm going to see if that'll fix the problem.

i just recently had the same thing happen. The seat doesnt move and I sometimes have passengers in the car behind me. When I drive alone, the seat is all the way back leaving little room for whoever might be behind me, but when I do have passengers, I move my seat up. this time it never moved. You can hear the switch clicking but no movement of the motor whatsoever.

Well I bought the gear and installed it myself in 30 minutes or less. I had to remove the gear first to look at it and make sure I ordered the right one. When the new gear came in I installed it and now the problem is fixed! I saved HUNDREDS of dollars!!!

go to the odometergears website mentioned above and navigate to Infiniti. There you'll see 3 pictures of the seat gears. They also have written instructions on how to access the gear. Use those instructions to remove your gear (there is a right and a left). Figure out which one needs to be replaced and order your gear and replace it.

okay so today...the seat really messed up...only the left side of the drivers seat moves..and the right doesnt move at all..

people have told me to check to see if the seat came off the track..but i think its just something stuck on the track (hopefully)..this means that its definitely not the motor..

is there any sort of write up besides the FSM about how to remove the entire seat without deploying the airbag. I know you have to be careful with the seat and make sure to disconnect any and all power to the entire car...but i dont think i'd be able to reach the back 2 bolts if the seat is all the way back.

I bet it's the right hand gear that has to be replaced, the left hand gear is OK so that's why it moves only on the left side. You do not have to remove the seat to replace the gear. It is very simple and the odometergears website gives you written instructions with pictures. Seriously - check out that website. I had zero experience working on cars and I fixed mine in 30 minutes using the instructions. You need a flashlight, a screwdriver, pliers and the instructions. And a new gear to replace the one that's all boogered up.

Okay so it was the gears that were bad.

My new question is that can having someone sitting in the seat and moving it back and forth (over time) have something to do with the extreme wear and tear of the gears? Because if you think about it, with someone in the seat (average height and weight), the seat motor and ultimately the gear (plastic) have to move the seat plus the person. Now if you were to stand outside the car and move the seat, then the motor and gears aren't getting that much stress put on them.

Does this make sense to anyone? Because I let my brother borrow the car for a few months while I took his Maxima. I think he kept moving the seat back and forth while he was sitting in the seat.

The seats should hold up. If Infiniti expected people to stand at the door and adjust the seat each time they are idiots :)

I haz no idearz. In my Maxima the issue was the switch itself, not gears or motors. Replacing the switch fixed it. On the G it seems people are having gear issues which is quite disturbing. On my car I believe the seats themselves are appx $5k each from the dealer. For something like that I would expect Infiniti to use parts that would not strip out in the first place. Maybe they designed them to have longevity in the Japan market where people are smaller than in the US and other markets where people are larger.
