Driver seat rubbing against console

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Does anyone else have a problem with their driver seat sitting too close to the center console and causing an extremely annoying "creak" every time the seat rubs against it???

I have under 1000miles on my 2009 and this is just starting to happen to me. I don't know if my seat, or perhaps the console has shifted closer? It seems not matter how I adjust the seat, it's always rubbing.

I read one similar thread on herewhere someone said the center console can be adjusted? Is this a common problem?

I love my new EX35, just HATE the loud creaking everytime I hit a small bump.

I have this same issue also and I have 2800 miles on my car. It creaks when I sit down, shift my weight, hit bumps and make turns. It doesn't seem like mine is rubbing against the console. Maybe I have a loose bolt or something. It drives me nuts.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I think mine is the same cause (seat rubbing the center console). I think mine always did it. I complained to the dealer about it; the service manager rode with me and all he said was "and that bothers you?". They wrote it up as "normal leather noise", and said there was nothing that could be done. But I did see that other post on here where someone said the dealer adjusted the center console to fix it. After a while I guess I've gotten used to it and it doesn't really bother me, though it's disappointing that a "luxury" brand has this kind of problem.

That's the same type of response I am worried about hearing from my dealer.

Does it seem to you guys that the center console is positioned closer to the drivers seat than the passengers? On mine, there is about an inch clearance between the passenger seat and center console, where as the driver seat sits flush against center console. If the console could be adjusted about 1/2 inch away, I'm sure it would fix the issue!

of course this is an unforgivable issues, and should be readily addressed...

but if you don't mind me asking, how heavy are you ppl? i'm only asking because

i'm 5'11, 200lbs, and although my seat does sit against the console, i dont get a rubbing sound... i'm not poking fun, just wondering if it's just that the seats are too soft etc etc,

Im 5'10 165 and my girlfriend is 5'2 110 and the seat rubs for both of us. If you lean on the bolster it rubs against the center console. The distance between the passenger seat and the driver seat are completely different.

I believe the side panels of the seats are vinal (plastic) fabric and not leather. I solved my squeek by putting a little "Armor All" on the sides of the seats facing the consol. I guess leather conditioner would work also.

FWIW, I'm just under 5'10", 145 and I've had this issue since day 1 (Apr 2008). The dealer acknowledged the problem but said there was no adjustability in the position of the centre console, even though as others have posted, my driver's seat is right next to the console whereas the passenger one has a 3/4" to 1" gap. He said they moved it towards the passenger side, best they could which did help for a while, but the squeaking (making me feel like I'm driving some "beater") has long since returned.

As a band-aid, I'll definitely try spraying with Armor All - good idea! (Of course, this doesn't absolve Infiniti of their poor design, testing or build quality - whichever of these in combination is the root cause.)

I also have a problem with the alignment of the dash to the door panel on the passenger side for which the dealer also said, "Sorry, nothing we can do." For now, I've just added these to my list of "things they won't/can't solve" like the rear hatch that needs to be manually pushed open all the way when temperatures fall to or below, single-digit Celcius degrees.

Overall, I'm VERY disappointed in the fit-and-finish of this my first (and if this keeps up, my last) Infiniti, particularly based on their claims of being a premium brand. Yes, Infiniti offers a lot of features for the money, but poor execution of some features (scrolling song list, pause in dialing string, etc) and other aspects like this, dramatically erode the value equation to the point where some of us I'm sure, might well decide otherwise, next time.

Ironically, this makes me NEVER want to buy a Nissan product. After all, if their "premium" line is like this, what's the regular one like?

I asked my dealer to arrange an appointment with Infiniti's area rep but more than a year hence, this still hasn't happened.

The "creaking" sound has went away since using some Armour-All leather wipes. I'm assuming the problem never appeared when I first picked up the vehicle because of any leather protector they used at the dealership.

As long as the creaking sound stays away by keeping the leather "clean" I'm ok with this. I've asked my dealer about them adjusting the center console and am just awaiting their reply.

Scott, out of curiousity, do you notice a difference in "gap" space between the driver and passenger seat back to the center console?

I have an 08 with 13K miles, have never heard a peep.

Out of curiosity, I took a look at the gaps. Pretty good gap (2") on seat bottom, but pretty close (1/2 - 3/4") on seat back. Console seems pretty centered at seat bottom, but slightly closer to drivers seat at seat back height. This could be the way it was installed, or the bolster on the driver side is more "relaxed" since it gets much more use than the passenger side.

Either way, I have never had a noise.

PS - I also have the Luxe Elite leather package on my 08; don't know if those seats are different than the ones you have?

Just got mine from 2 weeks at Infiniti for waranty repairs on the "creaking" sounds of the driver seat and B pillar, for B pillar they send it to body shop "in the weld of two sheet metal pieces they were rubbing against each other" they couldn't get to that weld so body shop got involved and actually fixed it, some of the plastic snap ins in the back of the driver seat, under steel guides for driver seat they put some kind of felt, also while mechanic were working on it found other problems, like motor for steering wheel tilt needs replacement, they were so embaraced that they did not charge me for oil change, and offered to replace the loaner for another with navigation. But now no sounds at all.

Clearly, this person did not want to do any work. Lazy a**. Next time, consider this reply:"Yes, that's why I'm here."It's non-aggressive, not smarmy, and gets the point across. The sound is not normal, and the car is certainly not a toyota tercel.

Just an update on this. After applying some leather protector, the rubbing noise has completely gone away.

So, if this problem bothers anyone else, do yourself a favour and make sure you keep your leather clean!!

Cheers all

Speaking of leather how often should the leather conditioner be applied?
