I have searched.

Hey guys, I've noticed since yesterday my drivers side outside button to lock and unlock the car hasn't been working. I can go to the drivers side and the black rubber button works just fine to unlock/lock the car but driver side doesnt work.

I tried pressing the button hard and held it for a couple of seconds and kept pressing it over and over again to see if I got a response and I got it to work once.

Does that button ever malfunction? Has anybody ever encountered this problem?

Thanks guys.

I have fixed the problem:

When i pressed the outside button on the door handle I would notice my dash would show the foot on the brake and start button; that told me the car knew i pressed the button and was telling me the key fob is close enough for you to turn on the car but it just didn't unlock the door/doors. Since the car didn't unlock what I did was pull on the handle and while it was pulled i pressed the button and that then started unlocking the doors and now it works normally. weird

That makes it sound like the car thinks (/thought) the key is (/was) inside of it. Try getting in without that fob and see if you can start it. Do it with that fob not near the car. If it starts, you have a problem (that is hopefully just a fob sitting in the car somewhere). If it doesn't, try it with the fob outside the door (for best results, have someone stand there with it in their pocket so it is close to where it would have been when you saw the dash light up). If it starts then, something is up with the proximity sensor (like maybe it got moved or something?). If it doesn't, I would assume you encountered a glitch that will probably not be easily reproduced.

thought I'd pass this along. 2009 M35X with 141k.
Driver door outside handle stopped working a week ago. Passenger door, key FOB, physical key, etc. all work. I called the dealer and he thought $295 to remove the door panel and if the handle/switch was the issue probably a total of ~$600. I'm thinking no as the key FOB works and the car now has 141k (this will be the first non-functional item for the car so it hurts a bit). To his credit he said to try pressing with more pressure. No joy. As usual I read people's postings and someone had noted to pull the handle and press the switch. Again no joy. Thinking the contacts are probably a bit corroded as happens with switches, I tried to push/slide the button up/down etc in an attempt to mechanically clean any contact corrosion. It WORKED. Back in business.
